On the right side there is a small cover that says XB9S Lightning with two small bolts holding it on. The bolts are really loose and I couldnt get them to tighten at all. What do I do? I am not the most mechanically enclined person. |

I'm pretty sure its riveted, so if they are loose you'd have to re-do the rivets. |

Darryl- Those are pop rivets, holding on the decorative cover on the timing chest. There are two common ways of fixing this problem. 1. Drill them out, buy a pop riveter and some rivets, and install new rivets. 2. Many brothers prefer to remove the rivets and replace them with screws. In that case you buy a 10/32 tap and drill set, (about 5 bucks) and two 10/32 screws about 1/4 to 1/2" in length.( A kit with all the parts you need is available from American Sport Bike, one of our sponsors.) Remove the plate behind the decorative plate, tap the two horizontal holes with your new tap, and then screw the plate back in. If you take the time to paint the cover to match the cam cover and use chrome button head screws, the result would be like this

Or the after market sell some pretty nice replacements that do away with all that nonsense. This one does away with the plate that's riveted on, and the plate that gets riveted to. Not cheap, but it's one of a kind. American Sportbike I think sell some timing covers that are the same build as mine, only a different design.
