Earlier tonight when taking the bike across the street to put air in the tires, my mesh jacket was draped over my tank bag and a small section of the sleeve cuff touched one of the headers. A bit of the material melted onto the header. Anyone have any ideas how to get it off without damaging the header? |

You can use razor blade very carefully when the pipes is cold. Or polish them totaly out. I think some people use 600-900 grit paper then some polishing compound to make the pipes shine. That would remove your Blueing and the melted plastic. The Blueing if you like it, like I do, will come back eventually. |

Jhanz My grandson (4yrs old) wanted to sit on the airbox cover and go for a ride in the yard. He put the sole of his tennis shoe on the headerpipe the sole melted onto the header. All I did was ride the bike again to char the remaining residue. Then the next time I washed the bike I used a kitchen scrachpad/sponge (green and yellow) with a little dawn detergent and the pipes looked great. |

Wrap it with header tape and never worry about it again. |

I've used steel wool as well as those nylon kitchen scrub pads--both work, although you gotta wait for the pipes to cool to use the nylon (obviously...). I've now melted both legs of my textile pants (from standing too close to the right side of the bike...once pushing it, once filling the tank...). |

I melted a few straps off my sling bags in the recent past. Those headers are a like a magnets and seem to suck anything close into their grasp. Don't worry all the gunk burns off or you can easily polish it off. |
