After a poor day of riding I decided to reset my suspension settings and try something a little different. I chose the aggressive riding settings as outlined in the service manual. While rocking the bike back and forth to see how the front end feels I can hear a metallic "ding" when applying the front brake with force. I checked ALL of the front mounting bolts and all were fine. Checked the axle, caliper, pads, rotor bolts and all were fine. The bearings seemed nice and smooth upon inspection. In other words everything seemed fine but the noise has me a bit concerned. When sitting on the bike a gently rolling it forward if I apply the brake to make the front end dive the sound comes from the rotor/caliper side. Is this normal just never noticed it before? Is it possible that it is the sound of the rotor "setting" itself under heavy braking? If not what else should I be looking for? Thanks in advance! |

the front rotor is a "floating rotor" might that be the noise? |

After the crappy day I had today I can only hope so brother! I actually thought it may be the rotor but wanted to check with others to see if they had experienced this. Surely didn't want my front end or wheel to go AWOL while leaning into a corner. Thanks for the input |

As Sgthigg suggested, it's probably the rotor shifting against the bushings. You can confirm this by watching the bolt nearest the caliper as you rock back and forward while applying the brake. You should see the rotor shift just as the sound occurs. Mine does this as well and I assume it's a normal symptom of the floating rotor design. The busings are a wear item which assumes that at some point they can wear out. One question someone else could maybe answer is how do know when the bushings are over worn? |

You may heed to re-tourque the steering head bearing. If it's loose you will notice a ticking sounds when you apply the front brakes at med to low speeds. |

S'funny I had this exact same thing the other day I ramped up the suspension to the manual's settings, having just rode back from taking delivery, funny click/clonk noise. Freaked, spent all evening riding up and down the parking lot.... Comes from the forks, I think Had some Tequila, went to sleep, got up the next morning, went for a ride, noise gone.
