ok i asked u guys about my problem w/ my frayed belt on my 04 12r, thanks 4 the feed back. but now i have another dilemma. the old frayed and stretched belt hung off of the cog about a half inch. i put the new belt on like u guys said, and it wasn't a big deal. (it does seem way to tight though). but when i spun the rear wheel up on the stand within a couple of revolutions the belt was hanging off of the cog, tensioner, and front sprocket a half inch, same as before. so i'm guessing somethings gotta be tweaked but this deal has me stumped. bike has to run by next week. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

This probably isn't going to be much help, but according to the manual: Condition : Apparent Belt Stretch -Worn Sprocket : inspect/replace sprocket -Debris in Sprocket: clean/protect -Idler Bearing Failure : replace idler assembly -Aggressive Riding/Hard Use : riding practice/ operator choice -Exposure to oils, solvents, harsh chemicals: eliminate exposure/ clean and protect drive I'd check to see if the idler (tensioner) is actually doing it's job. If not then make a checklist of the possible problems and then go through them one by one, eliminating possible causes of the problem. |

Check the part number to make sure you have the correct length belt? |

If you are saying that the belt wants to run a half inch off the sprocket, then something is bent on the bike, or the wheel is offset some way (not sure how that could happen since there are no spacers to mix up). Was it crashed, is it modified from stock? |

I bet probably in the tensioner pulley. |

If you removed your swingarm brace with tension still on the belt at any time, that can bend your swingarm and cause what your describing. |

the bike was not crashed and the only mod is tires (pirelli scorpions) |

i went to a guy that used to work on buells and he said that it could be a motor mount thats bad causing the enigine to lean and trowing the alignment of the belt off. make any sense? |

Are you sure your wheel is not offset?? Run a straight edge from the rear sprocket to the front! |

This may sound obvious but was the wheel torqued up properly and the proper sequence. ( Turn rear wheel while torquing)I would recommend loosing everything off, check your idler pulley, engine mounts, all related fasteners and try again. Hope this is some help. |

I'm surprised that no on said to put a Drummer on ye! LOL I think what you have here is the swing arm/eng mount bushings, M2 X1 X2 were known for blowing them all the time because they were the same thing the roadkings used. but with the XB there diffrent and a little more durable. all in all I would remove the pivot shaft and inspect bearings shaft and make sure that when going back together it easy "EASY" if you muscle it there is some bigger problems. |

be sure to check the tensioner wheel bearings and wheel bearings. A bad bearing on either one can cause this too. |

Also check rear axle is not tweaked. Wait a minute...how can the belt be hanging off the front and rear sprockets 1/2 inch? They have opposing edges. Is it hanging off the inside of the front and outside of the rear?? (Message edited by dylanfan53 on July 01, 2006) |

Just thought I'd add... An easy way to see if the sprockets or wheels are parallel is to use one of those laser pens. Try and find one with a really small light dot to make measuring easier. |

it's hanging off on both sprockets on the same side. the wheel is torqued down to spec. |

Can you post a picture of the side and the back? |

If its hanging off both sprockets on the same side then the belt can't be engaged. The rear has the edge on the inside so it could hang off on the outside. The front has the edge on the outside so it could hang off the inside, but it would be riding way up disengaged on one or the other if its hanging off the same side. Unless I'm misunderstanding something. Gotta see pics. |

Sorry, I don't know the part number. The front sprocket is all one piece. You must either have the wrong sprocket(s) or something is flipped the wrong way. |
