Normal, as in you got an old 03 XB9 Race Muffler. |

well the number on the box matches the buell website and it says.... The box was opened hmmmmmm "Fits '03-later XB models (except '06 XB12X)." Just didn't want to cook my tensioner pulley. |

What is the number. What is the coating on the muffler? Is it polished and shiney, or dull grey? |

Yep, you got the old 9 muffler. *EDIT* After re-reading your post, I want to clarify before passing judgement. Does it look like this? Or this? (Message edited by 99buellx1 on June 30, 2006) |

looks like the top picture..... It certainly is not polished that is for sure. that sucks. It sounds good on the bike....... Well can't return it sandblasted and painted it high temp flat black...... may take it off and adjust the right rear nozzle for more clearance...... My local dealer got me again...... When am I gonna learn. |

Did you purchase the muffler separate, or was it the entire race kit? I want to make sure they got you the correct ECM. |

The muffler is fine. It does not rub and the idler pulley does not get hot.....which is what I was worried about. I bought the ecm from Dave and it is for a 12s. After riding it 20 miles to get the tps reset...I decided that it was way too loud. I know what a dumb a.. Probably sell the exhaust. |

I will be in the market for a new pipe soon, if you want to sell it. I have a XB9S |

I thought the race pipe was loud too. It certainly sounds loud when you're sitting right on top of it. I'll admit I was a little paranoid about it. I got my tps reset today and as I watched the tech (great guy who likes Buells by the way) take off on my bike to test it out, I realized that it wasn't really that loud at all. It's much, much quieter than most of the non stock Harleys that ride past my house. I wouldn't want a pipe any louder than the race pipe cause while sitting right on top of it, it is as loud as I can stand but at least I no longer worry about cops bothering me about my pipe. |

I love the sound of the race kit on my 12R. NOW it sounds like I am riding something that I already know is alive, its just that everyone else is aware of it now too. I was cruising A1A and US 1 here in South Florida last night, myself and my better half. I was enjoying the rumble from my machine and I noticed it turned more than a few heads. It sounds like an American muscle bike should, deep and rumbly. It is a totally different sound than any I4, high pitched, jap bike and not half as loud as some other bikes I have seen/heard. The Buell sound is very similar to that of a Ducati on steroids. We just gotta get one on her Buell now. |

I have to admit that I too found the race pipe too loud, and I have gone back to stock. |

Keep the pipe!! Just make some spacers like we did for my buddies 9r. We went to Lowes and bought some stock aluminum bar (1" wide by whatever " long) and cut it down in 4-6" legnths. It doesnt look bad at all. Really, you can't tell that the spacers are in there, unless you are looking from underneath on your back. He did the same thing you did.... hahah no problem.... it was about a 1/2 hours job and did it with a cordless dewalt circular saw. And since you painted it... heck - stick with it. my buddy loves his. see ya, robert |
