I've heard a lot of talk about changing up ECM's, adding the PIII, or just keeping stock ECM after adding for example the D&D pipe and high flow air filter, and of course preferably having the bike Dyno tuned with either setup... Can someone shed some light on whether or not it's better to just stick to stock ECM with the other aftermarket mods? I've heard of difficulties with folks putting the race ECM in, and at the same time limitations as to how well you can tune the bike with the mods and stock ECM.... Anyone who has either setup and some good mileage on your bike who could offer up some experience would be greatly appreciated... I'm plannin on getting my bike in the next couple weeks, but am ordering the open airbox kit, high flow filter, catch can, American Sport bike's carbon cold air box cover (with the 'snorkle', aka-big hole cut in cover), right side air intake, D&D pipe (do they just make a slip on? It's all I've seen), and of course I'm trying to figure out if I'll need the Race ECM too, or will the stock be a better/safer choice? Thanks again folks! Stay up! | ||

I think the key is....nobody knows for sure.....to me $200 for a race ecm is cheap insurance against future problems caused by the motor running too lean. There were some photos of what a stock ecm and after market exhaust did to a motor. It was ugly.....I can't find the thread or I would post the link. | ||

When I put the new pipe on my CityX (Odie's Special Ops pipe), it started to run a bit lean, and I noticed the fan was running a bit more than usuall. I put in a K&N and the race ECM and all is right with the world now. Oh, and I LOVE the Special Ops pipe.. it was everything I was hoping for! | ||

Awesome dudes! Did all of you have the bike dyno tuned after putting the mods and race ECM on? So the race ECM just lets you fatten it up more than they can to a stock ECM on a dyno??? | ||

We recommend the Race ECM for all the Drummers. | ||

There is no tuning adjustment available with either the stock or Race ECM. Plug it in, tps reset, afv to 100. Done. You can re-map either with the Direct Link software, but this is something different entirely. | ||

So if they were to re-map it for better tuning on a Dyno they'd use the Directlink software for a Buell? I'm no Dyno expert as you can see, and I fear finding a good Buell mechanic in my area so I just want to get as educated as possible before I bring this all to someone... Thanks again folks! | ||

Not all dealers use, or are good with, the Direct Link software. Also, if you are going to have a shop do a complete map for your bike, you are looking at 4 hours minimum of dyno time (figure $60-70 per hour) plus you need a direct link 'key'. You can get in touch with Al at American Sport Bike in his sponsor section to see if he already has a map available for your combo. You send him your ecm, he sends you a mapped one. Much cheaper, and you know it's done right. | ||

Oh sweet! I shall have to check into that, how do I get ahold of Al? (I'm new to Buell and don't really know all these sweet connections yet)... I'm familiar with American Sport Bike's site, should I just call the number there and ask for him? | ||

You can call him, or, as I mentioned, go to his sponsor section here on the site and ask (or read) questions. Alot of this stuff has been answered in there, so I would recommend reading some of the posts in there to see if you find the info you need. | ||

Kool I just sent him a PM, hopefully he gets it... It looks like I'll be spendin a couple grand on stuff to get what I want and will go through him... Hope he's got a map for the ECM I'm buying to work with all my mods I listed for him, I don't want to hit up one of those expensive dyno shops, especially one in town which I have serious doubts that they have worked with any Buells |
