is there any value in swiss cheesing the CRAP out of the '05 airbox for increased airflow if it is already racekitted? will it run too lean or, can cem adjust for this? paul. |

I drilled mine to the point where I can't see completely removing it adding any airflow. That said, with a spec. ops pipe, race filter, and stock ecm tuned with direct link I got almost 93rwhp and 82rwtq...in FL heat. Before tuning it made 89/78 and did run lean. Open her up with the hole saw to save a few, but then spend it on DL tuning...runs like a diff. bike. .02, TK |

tommy, did you feel the low end go soft after drilling? did you regain the low-end grunt after tuning? i drilled my airbox and didn't like it at all, felt weaker down low so i went back to stock. i tried this on my '05 with Special O.P.S. + K&N + TFI and Drummer + K&N + TFI + Race ECM. |

I liked the effect of the drilled airbox so much that a week later I finished it off to an open airbox with just the 'lid' in place. |

Looks like all the opinions are covered. The open, or cut airbox is a VERY popular mod. |

Did the mods almost at the same time. Never noticed any loss in low end. The tuning just added a bit more across the whole range...basically took the before line and lifted it 5hp and tq all the way up. I'm totally happy with my mods. Everything works well together, and was affordable. I'll send you the dyno chart. TK |

If you were running a Jardine with a race ecm you may run into lean issues like I did. But from what I have heard here you should be fine with a factory race kit, just listen for excessive popping. |

more opinions please! i've been considering doing the open airbox (lid type) kit on my xb12 with racekit... you're basically saying, if it doesn't pop/backfire then it's not leaning out. |

Until you put a performance exhaust on your not in danger of a lean condition. Once you have completed your mods. there is no substitute for Dyno verification to find any lean spots in your power curve. We have fantastic sponsors that give free advise without feeling like you need to keep your hand on your wallet........Charlie |
