Is anyone running the [CityX] Pirelli Scorpion Sync's on a Firefolt? Curious. Looks like they'd be better in the rain / wet weather. | ||

If you're looking for more aggressive tread I'd maybe look at the tires that come on the Uly, i think they are Dunlop 616. I've been commuting out to unicorporated areas a lot and hitting a few dirt roads, considering a set or something similar myself. If ya want a good long lasting yet sticky sport tourer that performs well even when wet.... drum roll please.... my vote is on the Metzeler Roadtec Z6. IMHO, the Dunslop 616s are, at best, only marginally better than a "standard" street tire in off-road conditions. Note that not even Dunlop's own site suggests any sort of dirt capability from this tire. They do handle decently well in the rain (and the dry for that matter), but are hampered by very short life. I'll be damn lucky if I get 3,000 miles out of my rear. If you're looking for a decent rain tire, look at the current crop of sport-touring tires: Avon 45/46, Metzelers Z6, Michelin Pilot Roads, etc. All are reported to do very well in the wet. Even the "old school" Bridgestone BT20s I have on my SV work well in wet conditions. | ||

Hey Midknyte, I have an 04 XB12R Firebolt with a set of City X, Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on it. The reason I chose the Scorpion Syncs is because I had ridden a City X and I was shocked at how much more confident I was leaning the bike over in a corner with the Pirellis as compared to the stock Dunflops. I was sold on em right off. At 5K it was time to for new tires, so I hooked up with a set of Scorpions.. When I first rode my Firebolt with the Pirellis it was very different from the Dunflops. The Syncs felt taller and handled very different, especially at low speeds. It took me a couple of rides to adjust to the handling characteristics, but I've been hammering corners since. I haven't ridden in the rain with the Scorpions, so I can not comment there. But, I think they would do a great job. The tread pattern and design looks like they are made for wet riding. I live in South Florida and the rainy season is upon us. I'm sure to get caught in a few rain storms this summer, I'll let ya know soon, lol. (Message edited by beachbuell on June 19, 2006) | ||

Running safely 5000 km with my city 06 is to me a good record for the quality of these tires. In cold wet bad weather days these tires are the best I ever used. (15 years and 200.000 km in all weather conditions) Tire life is also nice. I'm still using the first set and you can see the result on the picts. And yes I drive fast, brake hard (pads almost worn) and corner hideous fast.    | ||

And today I even touched ground with one of the food pegs, and this is a lot of leaning angle on a City-X. (about 40°) Pirelli Scorpion Syncs are fantastic. and yes I 'am average build at 80 kg - 176 pounds | ||

I didn't measured it M1combat, but the Buell specs speak of soft contact at 42° (full suspension) and 50° for hard contact. It just felt that I even could gone faster trough that corner but on an open road and in morning traffic ... That will be on a track day somewhere sometime. | ||

I really have enjoyed my Conti Road Attacks (sport touring tires). I only got 3600 out of my stock Dunlop, but I have over 6000 on the Road Attacks right now (yes, including many burnouts). I'm going to have to replace the rear soon, but the front is still plenty fine. | ||

I have Avon Azaro Sport Touring AV46-ST these tires handle lot better then my Dunlop D208. The bike tracks better in turn and responses real smooth. Rain day have no fear I highly recommend them as a tire.  | ||

i use the pirelli scorpion syncs on my street buell and pirelli diablo corsas on my racebike buell. TONS of traction. highly recommended. D | ||

Just put on a new set of Metzeler Sporttec M3's and they are amazing, much better life than the pilot powers, sticky, very stable at high speeds, lots of cornering confidence. | ||

I just swapped out my stock Dunlops for Pirelli Scorpions on my 03 XB9r. I love the change in handling. The bike seems more "flickable" (if thats a word), and i have added confidence in leaning more. The rear tire profile doesn't look as good as the stock Dunlop (IMO), but the way it handles more than makes up for it! | ||

I switched from Sportec M1's to Diablo Stradas and I'm loving the Pirelli tires. I haven't had any problems with them in dry or wet conditions. | ||

Love the Scorps on my 9S. I ride easy, looks like I'm going to get 8000 miles or more out of them. I did get the rear one scrubbed to the edge last summer. When I replaced the stock Dunlops with the Pirelli's, I ran on the inside of my intended line for a few days. Big difference in handling. Good luck, Bill |
