To answer your question, here are a couple of reasons to get the Buell over the Triumph: 1. The lack of dealer support and replacement parts availability are huge issues with the Triumph. Don't buy one unless you are prepared to have your bike sit for weeks in the middle of riding season because of parts supply issues. 2. Cee Baileys makes an excellent windshield for the Buell that makes it a passable touring bike if you add the bags, tailpack, and tank bag. One thing you might want to do if you like riding the lightning is go over to Ebay and shop for a used S3T. With the large capacity hard bags it can carry more than a Lightning, and with the taller Rifle windshield it becomes a very respectable touring bike indeed. |

Man Robino you're killing me with those great looking pics man. I have negated the Triumph, I was reading alot about their dealer support, and the closest one to me is 30-40 minutes away. To far for me. And like Old_mil stated I do not want to be waiting for parts in the middle of riding season. I know there are equal issues with the Buell (eg. waiting on parts) but I have more options with the american made bike. I have 3 dealerships within 10-15 minutes of me so it gives me more options. I am curious however about "luggage" for the XB12Ss, are there any out there besides the standard tank bag and such?? Cheers, Anomaly PS. Jaimec Thanks for sending me that write up. It was a good read. and like you said there are some questionable differences in there, to the point that it didn't make sense from my knowledge of physics (not much but enough) So a big Thank You. |

I wouldn't buy a bike based on dealer support or projected maintenance costs. If you want the lowest maintenance possible, I'd say a Honda Nighthawk 750 is for you. Of course you get a very bland experience on the bike and you feel like a tool while riding it, but it will transport you to work daily for the rest of your life provided you change the oil. I can't name a single bike with what I would call "acceptable" dealer support because every motorcycle dealer I have ever personally met has filled me with murderous rage. (I'm sure that would change if I met Daves or one of the other dealer-sponsors) Buell gives the purist what he is after. A do-it-yourself, raw power and seat-of-your-pants flying experience. A motorcycle for the individual, not a cookie-cutter clone from the same factory which built the planes that bombed Pearl Harbor, or the same factories that built the tanks that killed our men in Anzio and Montenegro... No, the Buell is the epitomy of Americanism. It's not perfect, but it kicks ass over anything and everything else. ps, I ride my XB12R on some fairly lengthy trips around California and Nevada, and at the end of the day I admit my wrists are just dead. Shoulders, neck and back are fine. I'm thinking at long last of getting some risers for my handle bars. For longer trips a Uly or Lightning Long would be best. Longer wheelbase will take some of the beating out of the road. Also those bikes have a cushier seat. Triumph is a great bike, hats off to the British, and IMHO is the only real alternative to a Buell but your maintenance will cost more. (Message edited by pwnzor on June 22, 2006) |

like i said, i had the Triple, definitely faster than the xb12 but fun factor and feeling connected with the bike, that's where i favor the xb12S, and with the race kit it's got plenty of grunt.

If you're thinking about touring, the xbs isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, at least in my opinion. I rolled 2200mi over four days on an stock xbs + cityX handguards, race kit, and buell luggage, and the only thing that was sore was my arse (stock seat), and my right wrist (no throttle lock). And to be fair, both would have been just as sore on any other bike ridden over 2200 miles. I'd argue that I would probably have been just as sore if i sat in the same chair for like 36hrs straight! Anyways, no pain in my neck, back, legs, etc... just throw in some ear plugs, down two asprin before you leave, keep the bike below 90, and you've got a hot looking bike capable of the occasional cross-country tour. |

my new buell xb9 always put a smile on my face .. and i have ridden all types .. i just started riding after a long break 5 year break.... i hate the car now.... i use to race moto x ... and the xb9 is the answer for me ... i even ride if there is a 60% chance of rain .. again i ride in the city 0 -60 stuff and a lot of stop lights ... it a a blast... where r you going to be riding ? highway or city i cut thru city traffic like a hot knife thru butter. " it feel like " however when i ride the highway i get pelted with highway trash . if i was going to spend any real time on the highway. i would ride the firebolt ... "robino " for $7500 look great. the warranty is not all that important " i got the 5 year warranty and now after read all these great reports i believe u could fix any further problem with this web-site and a buell teck ... .. good luck .buell riders are i bit different .....http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/board-image-lister.cgi?popup=1# |

I have a Buell XBS because I found a great deal at the time and the insurance was much lower than the Speed Triple. Don't get me wrong I love my bike but I think I still prefer the Speed Triple. There happens to be a really good dealer in Milwaukee however, but even they warned me about longer times for parts. One more thing about the SS... I am 6'2" and I like the regular lightning BETTER than the SS so try both. The cut of the frame is a little different on the SS and my knees did not tuck in (nor do they on the firebolt due to higher pegs). |

Lots of great pics, but it still all comes down to the same thing. Go with what moves you. |
