XBDragginknee and I stop for a break on the way home from the Buell Demo Day in Baltimore yesterday. Do the standard routine, flip down the kickstand, dismount, go into the store etc. I come back out and Mike (XBDK) says, "why does you bike lean more than mine?" Quick answer from me was, yours is a 9Low, mine is a regular 12, you have a shorter kickstand. Seemed to make sense at the time. (The answer could have been better, but my butt was numb from all day riding ;))

Fast forward to today, cleaned all the bugs off from the 470 miles yesterday, bike is still kinda leaning over more than I could remember. I check out the kickstand and find that the threads have broken off of the kickstand pivot bolt. For some unknown reason, and I don't know how long it has been that way, the bike hasn't fallen over due to the bolt being broken. I pulled the shouldered portion of the bolt out with my fingers. I guess there was enough of the threads sticking out and catching the kickstand to keep it from falling over.

I did a makeshift repair, (drilled and tapped into the bottom of the shoulder bolt) to hold the kickstand until I can get a new one ordered in.

I posted this just as a warning, hopefully this was just an odd occurance.

BTW, my bike is an '04 XB12S, 6500 miles and I don't sit on the bike with the kickstand down.

I had the same thing happen. I drilled out the sidestand bolt and put a grade 8 bolt through it, losing the idiot sidestand retract liability in the process.

MIne did the same thing (XB12R) I had it in for service, got it back and the bolt was broken. I drove it for maybe 2 months like that. Every time I stopped, I dismounted VERY gingerly as I was waiting for my dealership to send me one. Finally it broke. It will snap, just the when is the problem. I was able to use another bolt to put in there before the dealership (backorder) got it to me. They sent it free of charge (warranty)
