Okay, here's the novel: bought a used '06 XB12SS a few weeks ago and it seems to not run quite right. It has 2300 miles on it and is in really good shape. I can tell it probably sat outside, but otherwise looks really good. I've gone through all the typical maintenance items just for piece of mind, but the bike still has a miss. I've changed plugs and still misses (plugs that were in it looked fine & normal). It is hard to describe - it isn't an extremely obvious miss - like jerking and sputtering, rather a subtle 'rough' feeling while cruising along (kinda like you're on a rough road - just kinda mildly jerky). When you get on the throttle it gets up and goes - no problem - no hesitation. When I notice it most is when I'm just cruising at like 2-3k - mostly noticeable at lower speeds. It very well may be doing it at higher speeds/rpms - however with the wind blast I can't tell/hear the engine. It is hard for me too as this is my first HD/V-twin - so I have a hard time distinguishing what is the normal V-twin vibration/lumpiness and the miss. My buddy who is 30+ years on Harley's took it for a ride and said yes, it did have a miss, but it didn't really bad. I have checked plug wires (haven't replaced though), checked battery terminals. The previous owner said the 1000 mile service was done, however I didn't think to ask if the dealer had done it and done the TPS reset or if he just did the maintenance items. Think this could be a TPS reset needing to be done? Any other thoughts? Thanks! | ||

Get the TPS reset, and have them reset the AFV . If you do not have any fuel modifying electronics like a Power commander or a TFI unit, that should take care of it. It is happeneing it sounds like in the closed loop operation, as everywhere else you are saying it is fine is during open loop, so it is a cruise fueling issue. Just get it done, and most likely will go away. Bruce | ||

I have the exact same problem on my 04 XB12s w/3300mi. I just bought from dealership (it was owned by the parts manager) and when I test rode it, it ran perfect. The missing started 2 days later. I called and they said I may have fouled a plug by cranking the motor and cutting it off a short time later while showing friends the bike. The missing went away after approx. 150mi and ran perfect again until I cranked it again for a friend and cut it off. Sure enough next ride, missing again. And sure enough last night after warming up, (around 100 miles after last crank and cut off) it quite and ran perfect. I was going to try the Buell Pro series plugs as they claim to resist fouling. Let me know how it goes if you have the throttle reset. | ||

Okay, so I took it in last Saturday and they reset the TPS and A/F for me. It *seemed* to run better, but I wonder if it was just my imagination. It for sure is back to the way it was now though. I took it out tonight after work - let it warm up, started riding and it is missing and jerking right off (which I could expect cause it was still probably a bit cold), once it warmed up it stopped the 'violent' jerking from missing - but back to it's normal self - just a slight miss. I don't understand how it could miss 'slightly.' Like could that be just one revolution it misfires, and when it is noticeable jerky (like when it is cold) is it missing numerous revolutions? I guess I'll just have to take it to the shop and drop it off under warranty. I'd like to not have to do that cause who knows when they can get to it, but I don't want to just start replacing parts on my buck when it's under warranty. Is there anything else simple I should try? It had the hotter 6r12's in it when I got it, I've put the 10R12's (per the manual) in it since to see if that helped any - doesn't seem any different. Should I try replacing the plug wires? Man this is frustrating... so excited to ride this thing and it won't run right!!!  | ||

I am having the same problem with my 07 xb12TT with only 3500 miles that I just bought. At a steady 2 to 3 thousand it misses and fouls out. I had the dealer put new plugs in the next day and it was okay for about 50 miles now the problem is back. Ill be taking it in again. |
