After 700 miles on my XB12Ss I think I got the right bike but I do have questions... 1) Yeah, it isn't just Buell but I don't get 1 down X up shifting, am I the only one who has the world's longest stoplights in my way so I need to use it fairly often? I guess it is legacy from some tractor maker who created a bike way back and it became standard but a) neutral should be easy to find (all the way down?)with no soft, but firm, pull of the toe that pops it in 4/5s of the time which we check by feathering the clutch or looking at the idiot light and b) neutral shouldn't be between the two gears that you jam through to beat the two previously slow cars you got between at the stop only to have then inch into traffic in a usually futile attempt to even be in the same zip across the street (except that is when you don't shift 'em like you mean it and it pops into neutral. 2) Why the frame pucks aren't standard on a lightning and why the standard grips are made of the hardest material known to man so my throttle hand is hurting ten minutes down the road if not at above 60 MPH? Both easily fixable and will be soon... Standard in 2007? 3) The "cheese grater"...does anyone know what it is for? It apparently doesn't hold luggage. It seems like all non Uly owners remove it as soon as humanly possible to improve the looks of the bike. One helpful souls said "it is to stop mud from slinging on your back"...ammended to "it strains the rocks from the mud" when I pointed out the holes. 4) How do I get rid of the car magnets? I mean cars in front are slowed by the gravity of a bike behind them and then are propelled forward at great speed when the same bike is in front. It is sort of fun to play with them, flinging some SUV by at breakneck speed only to be captured at 55 alongside the truck ahead that also has strong magnets while I pass them both on the right at the same speed I was doing all along. Forgive my ranting... |

1. Virtually every bike, 4 wheeler, etc. ever made. (still dosnt make sence) Course, mine is 1 up 4 down. 2. Grips are virtually the same as every other manufacturer, always the first thing changed. Frame pucks, yeah, their nice. They put them on the more "agressive" styled models. Other brands dont come with sliders, have to look aftermarket. At least Buell came out with something that works, is easy to replace if damaged, and fairly inexpensive. 3. Bike looks short with it, just looks better without. DOT requirements state that there has to be part of the bike (fender) that goes past the rearmost part of the rear tire. Hence why it has to be there. 4. Just go faster. |

1. Nuetral will be easier to find once the tranny gets more broke in. Mine was real tight at first until I broke it on. 2. Soft hands?? 3. I agree 100% lol its definetly "mud strainer" Look at spec ops he is a sponsor and makes a good eliminator. Plus he is TOP NOTCH when it come to customer service. I have the utmost respect for him in this department. 4. Stil trying to figure that one out. |

I had a Yamaha in the 1960s that had neutral at the bottom. I remember some of my friends other makes with the same set-up. I think they now universally put neutral betwen 1 & 2. Neutral at the end was easier to find and didn't seem to cause any problems. |

If motorcycle manufactures can make a universal shifting pattern why cant the manufactures of electronic devices stadardize the charging plug? Crazy mixed up world I tell ya. |

They have for the most part. Most manufacturers have their own standard, it's just different than the others'. I hadn't heard of any bikes that did have neutral at the bottom although I heard of up and down swapped (British to go with being on the wrong side of the road?). |

Why neutral is not at the bottom is a safety thing. A low drive gear should be easily accessible should you need to accelerate out of a dangerous situation. By having first at the bottom you can just step repeatedly to get to it. If neutral was at the bottom it would be a lot harder to find first when stressed. Frame pucks, I dunno? Cheese grater, that thing is ugly. Car drivers are retarded. And DO accelerate once the double yellow disappears. Why? |
