Just wondering what everyones technique is for weelying. I know myself i usually slow down to about 40 in 2nd, left foot on passanger peg stand up clutch it up with a lil bounce on the front and just hold it as long as i can. Im on a 9s and just wondering if people are having success at around 55mph in 3rd if i can get it up in 3rd i know i can just cruise and rip it up but now i have to slow everyone else down a bit, usually kids im riding with are all on gsxr's and superhawk 996's and pull em up around 50-60 and id love to be able to but cant get it up. I do in fact have basicaly the race kit installed and all. Would the 12 be easier to bring up at that speed? |

You can pick it up in 3rd at those speeds. In second you can go much slower than 40 also, but it sounds like you are more interested in doing some highway stuff. I usually pick mine up at between 50-60 in third gear with a decent bounce. I'm on a 12R, but a guy that I ride with is on a 9S and he can do the same. |

Damn, I can't do it except in first. I just can't get myself to do the standing up while dumping the clutch deal. You guys rule. |

Once you've ridden wheelies standing up it is hard to go back to sitting down. I feel like I have so much more control when I'm standing. |

Those Buell stunters are great. Now I really feel like I suck. I'll have to try to wheelie standing up now. |

Haven't tried it on a motard, I'm sure it's harder than it looks, but me and a fellow bueller can do the same thing on a crf50 all day long... |

The guy I'm talking about is Duff24. We ride wheelies all over KC. Yes, we do bounce and clutch at the same time when we are riding 3rd gear wheelies. In 2nd all you have to do is drop the clutch. Both of us can rock second sitting or standing, but we have to stand up to bring up the front in third. I'm not sure how much Duff weighs. He'll have to help you out there. I'm about 190 lbs and I'm on a 12, so it may be a little different for me. I will say that we aren't really bouncing on the bike that hard though. When we've tried 4th a couple times I'm bouncing on it with all of my weight, but in 3rd it is just a small bounce. |

On my nine, I'd need to dump the clutch and get a crane to get the front up in second while sitting. I do weight 210. I gotta get my 38 year-old ass over the fear of standing up so I can get better wheel stands. You guys still rule. |

Thanks Spatten. I was running at about 205 for a while spatten, and I could still pick up the front sitting in second at 30 pretty easily. When I try to pick it up at 20 in 2nd it requires quite a bit more gas, so maybe if you speed up or slow down just a little it will help you out. Duff and I are going to go out riding this weekend with a digi camera so we can post up some pics of the tomfoolery. We'll chill in a parking lot for a little while and then take it the highways for some high speed fun. |

Olin, I'm wondering if it because I have a 9 that I can't get it up in second sitting down, or is it just a technique thing? |

Spatten, I ride a 9S and get second up sitting with no problem...Just work on your technique getting your rpm's up a little more each try...You will soon have it dialed in and it will come up easy and consistant...Be sure to cover your rear brake!!! |

Hogs Maybe yer bike just needs a little blue pill. Put it in the tank about 40 min. before the ride then you'll be riding like a 19 year old hooligan. |

The 9 will do it just as easily as the 12, and I would think a little extra weight as a counter balance should even help the front come off the ground. When I first got my 12 I could wheely in 2nd no problem, and then it sat for a while and I couldn't do it anymore. I was wondering if something was wrong with the bike, so I took it out pissed off and flogged it. Needless to say I almost looped the bike because I was trying to prove a point to myself. With as short as the wheelbase is and the amount of torque available at very low rpms you would be amazed at how easily it is to be up on one when you've got it down. When I first started riding 3rd gear stuff I would bounce the crap out of it and still not get it every time, but now it is a very small movement because I have the timing down. |

I guess the problem is with my gonads. I learned to ride curves when I was young and had no fear, and do fairly well with them now. I learned to wheelie in my mid-thirties, two kids later, when the fear thing is tougher to overcome. |

Spatten, I hear ya...I ride with the 2 snot nosed kids Olin and Duff, but it seems the older you get and the longer it takes to heal the gonads kinda shrink up a bit....and all this time I thought they dropped like a couple of oranges hangin' in some pantyhose... |

Hey, we resemble that statement! Don't be jealous old man. I've seen your front tire off the ground once or twice. |
