I have read a ton load of threads about the desnorkling of the air box. I only saw in one thread it was debated about when you remove the snorkel should you seal the bottom half of the box to the frame (with weather stripping etc). Or leave it open. Should it be sealed so no in coming air escapes out to the engine? Or does it not matter? Thanks |

It doesn't really matter to be honest. As the original 'thru the frame' inlet was never a true ram air system the airbox was never pressurised anyway, so you won't be 'losing' any incoming air. |

Also to note, the snorkle is not about sealing anything. It's there to help limit noise pollution. |

i'm sure also. ever ride the bike w/o the air box on it? "NO" air comes thru that hole in the frame, trust me. air takes the path of "least" resistance. the air has a choice to go thru the air duct to the rear cyl. or it can take a 90 deg. turn up thru the hole in the frame. |

How about rain coming into the air box? I am talking about the seal the snorkel makes between the frame and the inner airbox. |

I actually sealed the bottom of the snorkel using a hobby paint can lid and some shoe go, and use the space as storage now for my tire repair kit. Guys say "but you have to take the airbox cover off to get to it!!" Yeah, and what hurry are you in if you have a flat tire?? I also believe that by sealing the bottom of the snorkle flat, you create minimally less turbulance in the scoop, and should be getting greater airflow to the rear cylinder at speed!! Just an idea Bruce |

Agreed... My theory was to drill holes in the tank at the top and bottom of the tube that runs through the frame, then cap the top and bottom of it... Of course I would be smoking a cigarette when I did this... |
