Buellers, This weekend a Race ECM & KN filter were installed on my '05 XB9XS. I have a modified pipe. I seem to be running rich. I've taken my airbox cover off twice this weekend to be greeted with oil on the inside. What suggestions have you? I'm thinking to just wait a few weeks to see if my ECM needed time to acclimate itself to my bike. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Brent |

what makes you say you are running "rich"? the oil in the airbox could be from over filling the oil tank. be sure to check oil "while on kickstand" NOT while bike is held "level." how much oil greeted you when looking? |

Oil in the airbox doesn't mean it's running rich. |

the oil in the airbox could be from over filling the oil tank. Not necessarily. The vents, vent into the air box, you'll get oil just by riding the bike. Unless of course you're talking about a lot of oil. Got a picture?

It's a light mist. I was just having this conversation with someone here at work who is a HD guy.He explained to me that it's not running rich just as you guys have mentioned. I guess the other thing that makes me think there's something a miss is because I think I've lost a bit of power instead of gaining it with the Race ECM. |

If you feel you've lost a little power after getting a new ECM (I'm taking it you've had it reset) you need to go and ride above 3500rpm for 10 minutes or more, the FI needs to "learn" your bike.

After you try what Glitch said(and it should solve your problem) but if not, you might want to think about a little dyno time.Sometimes thats cheaper than trying to figure it out yourself. You said a modified pipe? Is it one we are familiar with? Could be the problem..........Charlie |

It's a light mist. ------------------------------------------- a light mist is NORMAL. I guess the other thing that makes me think there's something a miss is because I think I've lost a bit of power instead of gaining it with the Race ECM. ------------------------------------------------- do you mean you lost some bottom end torque? |

What good does it do to get time on a dyno unless you have the DirectLink to remap? Seems like anything you do (including adjusting A/F ratio) will just get reset by the ECM itself next time you ride for a while in closed loop. Unless of course, you have the Direct Link to modify the maps. Am I wrong on this? |

I've talked to a couple of guys since this morning about this and this is what I've learned: A little oil in the airbox is normal. Didn't realize that. So a lot of the rest of this may be in my head. I do think I lost some bottom end torque. Not sure on that one. But as I'm going through this, there's not much I can change if I do have a problem. The only variable I could control is buying the Buell Race Pipe. |

It might be useful to know what pipe you are using now. Many members, (myself included) have had very good results using the Drummer mufflers, with the Buell race ECM and the K+N filter. The Drummer produced by one of our sponsors. The general consensus is that they have better low end torque than the factory race kit which is a bit of a top end pipe. |

I am running rich too. Is it possible to cut the airbox and see if that would help? I went from stock to having 115 or so miles to tank, to putting on odie, k&N, race chip running at 90 to the tank. and on hard accels it spits black smoke, I assume rich as can be. Let me know thanks guys! Jerry W Des Moines, IA

well, I think I should just say, sitting at idle. usually on start up, and just gas it. It's not thick, its just real thin, but noticable. Ideas? Jerry W Des Moines, IA

Dmex. Did you have the TPS reset when you installed the new ECM? |

If you haven't already pulled the snorkel, that may help get more air into the mix. |
