Well I decided to put a little bling on my bike. I started with the front heel protectors. Took them off to polish them and they came out great, so on to the the rear heel protectors. Well it's not so easy to get the screws out of the rear heel guards. There like welded in, I striped the allen head trying to remove them. So I took the hole rear bracket off to see what I can do to get them out. It just got worse from there. I ended up having to drill them out to get them off. Now I'm going to have to drill and tap them. This sucks! Have any of you fellow Bueller had the same problem with yours. Mine is a 06Sslong. Also are the rear brackets different from a Sslong to a regular S. Because if I have to get new one I will. I seen chrome one out there some where. Any advice would do. Thanks |

I was going to do something with my passenger pegs on my X1 but I stopped because the screws didn't budge. Good news: I didn't mess up my screws Bad news: I didn't get to do anything with my pegs. At least I know that they won't vibrate loose. |

I stripped the nut trying to get the heel guards off on mine also. Problem solved i just removed the entire set of rear pegs, my wife refuses to get on the back of the lightning anyway... |

I buggered up a set and we ended up drilling them out and then re-tapping. (Message edited by kccyclone on May 30, 2006) |

I went thru the same on my '04 12R. I replaced the heel guards, the fronts came out fine, the rear stripped. I had to use an eaze out on a couple of the rear screws. They seem to be very soft. I was able to replace them with a very similiar screw from the hardware store. If you do try to remove the guards keep a small drill and eaze out handy... Kevin |

Yep, Same deal on my 03 xb9. I took a hack saw and cut a slot in the screw head and got them out with a big A$$ screw driver. Replaced screws with stainless allen bolts with beefie looking heads. "I learned them S.O.B's" |

I did what percyco did except I used an impact screwdriver after sawing a slot in the head. You know, the kind you smack with a hammer and it pushes inward as it turns. Worked like a charm. $Cheap$ Fast-----> Reliable. Pick Two.

Bolts were very stiff at initial breakaway, but after that all was good. No problems here. |

I just changed out both the rider & pillion Heel guards today. Gee, I`m glad I saw this post 1st. Probably prevented a lotta heartache & unnecessary damage. Initially all the screws were quite tight. To the point you know if your force them it will either strip the head or round the bit. I used a brass drift/punch on the rider heel guards screws & gave them a few jarring taps. They then were quite easy to remove. The pillion heel guard screws were harder to get too so I just removed the footpeg mount brackets. Then once off the bike I then gave the screws a few taps with the brass punch which released these as well. All screws removed as normal after the "taps" released them |
