I rode some back roads home yesterday and some long fast curves with some straight runs. I wasn't pushing any limits(other than the legal ones), just kinda of riding to enjoy myself. I noticed somewhere around 90mph in fifth gear that if I got into the gas harder it was actually bogging down. Now I down shifted a couple gears and away she goes to bump the rev limiter and then on well above 100 in the next gear. Well I wasn't looking to break the land speed records so I backed off. No warning lights just seemed to be cutting out my fuel(which was 3/4 full). I am a little worried this is a sign of a bigger problem. Off the line its fine just seemed that top gear roll on was cutting out on me. Anyone have some ideas? |

Too much throttle maybe. I find at higher speeds, or gradual(sp) input gives me the desired results, could be wrong though. |

Although I have a 9, I find my bike will cruise just fine in the top gear at 70-75. However when I decide to go for little high speed run it takes a lot longer to do this staying in the top gear than dropping down a gear and then shifting up again. I get the best results shifting into the top gear at 100...I agree with smoother is better when it comes to acceleration on these bikes. |

Yeah I agree I was only easing into the throttle, but the engine actually seemed to be choking up, maybe to much fuel? |

It is possible it is too much fuel...I get the feeling the load on the bike is part of the equation. You mention lower gears is fine at the same RPM...but going the same speed at a higher gear is a higher load on the bike. Given there are low miles on the bike (you indicate in your profile the bike was just purchased) that it could be the TPS which is related to fuel. I the TPS on my bike needed a bit of attention the first 5000 miles or so. Now it seems to be every 8000 - 10000 miles that the TPS needs to be reset. When this is done the bike runs better especially when accelerating. |
