Just spent an hour with a can of flitz & a rag trying to buff out the oxidation spots on my rims without much success. Living by the beach has it's perks but shiny wheels isn't one of them. Any advice?? |

Flitz is great for light surface oxidation and buffing, but doesn't have the abrasive qualities of a polish like Mothers or similar. You might want to try one of the more aggressive polishes. I used to live in San Diego about 5 mi from the beach. Salt air is murder on polished aluminum. |

I use either Mothers or SimiChrome on the smooth edges of the XB rims. I live in Arroyo Grande which is also near the ocean and my wheels stay looking pretty good although I keep my bike in a garage most of the time. |

Flitz doesn't have the abrasive qualities that other polishes do?? Sure it does... those of you that may of heard me say use Papertowel to apply with?? Well thats where I got it from. The owner of that company was at a family gathering a couple years ago. He told me to use paper towel. Thats where the abrasive comes from. Rub it in real good then polish off with terry cloth towel. I was amazed. |

If its real bad use a die grinder with a buff wheel and some white buffing rouge. Then clean with your favorite polish and all should be good! |

Well I just polished mine today with some blue magic on a paper towel cause I just got it from Florida with those spots. They look great now. My question is what do you clean the brake dust off the inside of the rim and spokes with? Its rough so you can't just wipe it off so I tried some of that Wesley's bleach white but it messed the polished part all up so I had to redo that. Oh and cleanin around that front rotor is a mother. |

I use one of those kitchen brushes and "degreaser" mixed 50/50 with water (i.e. Simple Green, Blue, etc) while washing the bike to clean off the wheels. In between washings I find a dry terry cloth used to pick up the dust on the frame, forks, front fender, and wheels works pretty well. I just do this while the bike is warming up which helps makes sure it warms up long enough... |
