Does the Pro Series Air Filter need to be oiled like a K&N type filter? They are very similar in appearance, but the papers that come with the kit do not mention oiling the filter. Just checking to be safe.

Thanks,
Schmitty

Not really Dana.
The current Buell race filter does not need to be oiled.
One less step if you ask me.
Flows as good, less hassle,no oily mess

I got one for the 9 and sent it back. There wasn't anything that said you could maintain it in the kit or box. K&N's use oil to trap dirt and suck. Use the K&N cleaner and the re oil and your done. The new one traps it dirt in the fiber just like a disposable filter element.Since HD dropped the K&N line they have had two vendors that had made filters for them and the first vendors filters were real junk... like the fiber literally falling apart. I saw one. The oil for the K&N can be messy some but hey you don't have to do it so often. Who said it flows better??? Wheres those tests??? Buell probably is saving money by using the present filter vendor.Who makes the present filter for BUELL???

Probably the same company who makes the one piece "Buell" decal for the Uly airbox cover.

Yes, the first vendor after K+N had some problems with a few filters, not all of them of course but enough to be an issue of falling apart.
I have no idea who makes them for Buell

I did not say the Buell one out flows a K+N now did I? I said it flows as good.
I do not have "tests" to prove it but I don't see any "tests" to disprove it either.

The current Buell race filter is cleanable, simple soap and water or even use the K+N cleaner.
Rinse it out,let it air dry, just like the K+N and then reinstall it. You just don't oil it.

I am not knocking K+Ns I have them in many of my bikes and have used them for years, I have been riding for 35 years and average over 15,000 miles per year so I have cleaned a lot of them. The oil is an extra step I don't miss with the Buell race filter.

I sell both, we all get to have the one that works for us that way.

Dave how aboout this for a comparison. I have owned a cleaning service for 12 years now. Cleaning Upholstery and carpet is part of my life. The next time I go to a customers house to clean a Couch I'll unzip the upholstery and rinse with soap and water to unlodge unwanted dirt. Or I'll go to the person home clean the Uphlstery the right way then Spray Dupont Teflon on the fabric so in the future the Fabric does not hold dirt in the fibers. See what I'm say?? The oil aids in not letting the fiber get broken down and holding dirt. Without it in due time you may get it clean the first few times then you won't because it has retained to much, the fiber is worn from over cleaning. You may have been riding for 35 years but I have spent the last 12 that making a life out of cleaning fabric's and understanding them.

How about you run the K+N and I'll use the Buell filter and we agree to disagree?
