Author Message   Rarebird Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - 11:17 am:        I just got a Nelson Rigg Large strap tankbag, and the matching tailbag for my 12R. Seem to be really nice quality pieces. Lots of space, well made, great price. My question is, how are people mounting the 3-strap tank bags, particularly the front straps? Mine currently goes down around the top of the isolator and back up around the frame, but it seems awfully warm down there for nylon straps... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! -Mike   Diablobrian Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - 03:03 pm:        I used an old wood burning iron I had and melted holes in the 2 front straps of my tank bag and attached the straps by placing the front airbox cover bolts through those holes. The rear strap is pretty obvious, I ran it around the frame where the upper shock mount is, and run it up between the seat and airbox cover. I had considered putting grommets in the front straps, but have never gotten around to it. Hope this helps.   Buellisti Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - 11:19 pm:        I haven't had a problem in two years of running my forward straps around the top of the isolator and back up. For my single rear strap, I took a length of 3/4" nylon webbing about 10-12" in length and using a soldering iron, I burned a hole near each end. I then attached this homemade strap to the bike using the two rear most airbox cover bolts. I just loop the rear strap for the tank bag through this strap. When I'm not using a tank bag, I tuck the bolted on strap under the front of the seat.   Rarebird Posted on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 02:20 am:        Thanks for the ideas! I had considered using the airbix bolts, but I was concerned the straps would seperate or the bolts would not be strong enough... looks like I'll give them a try.   Diablobrian Posted on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 04:01 pm:        the reason for using the soldering iron, or wood-burner is to melt the edges to that the strap won't fray or separate.
