I put the 06 belt on my 03 XB9S few month ago.
For 2 days I have a suspect noise " clack..clack..clack " when I am running in neutral even when the engine is off.
I put the belt off, when I turn the front sprocket : no noise.
I put the belt back, no noise when it is loose and when I tight the rear wheel the noise is back ( I turn the rear wheel by hand ).

Have you any idea !
Thanks

JP

Check the interface between the belt and the pulleys...when I switched over to the '06 belt/pulleys on my '03 XB9R...I noted the belt was tight both in tension as well as fitting into each pulley tooth. So much that it was kind of resisting going onto the pullet all the way when the belt entered for the first 3-5 teeth.

However after about 100 miles that went away and the belt did loosen up a bit (less tension but plenty tight).

Obviously it has something to do with belt being tight on the bike...

Forgot some other things:

1. This is kind of a stupid statement but I assume you got updated pulleys...the teeth size/number are different from the '03 and the rest. Not sure how you went about it...I got the kit from American Sport Bike.

2. Make sure you got a different Idler Pulley assembly...I believe it is different between '03 and the rest. It is also supposed to be replaced (the bearings at the very least) with the belt.

3. I had to get a different front pulley cover as the front pulley is bigger. I got this from American Sport Bike as well.

Yes, I know, I bought the all kit ( front and rear pulleys, belt and idler pulley ) from American sport bike, and put all those new parts on my bike.
Anyway thanks one more time.

sounds like maybe the idler since it doesn't make the noise loose.

Also did you check clearance from the belt guards?

Is there any excess rubber, or non-uniform texture on the belt edges or back that could cause the noise?

Already checked.
The "clack" is coming from the front, seems to be at each time the front pulley is making a revolution.
