I'm going to buy an XB12Ss in a couple of weeks after I get back from a business trip if I can find a dealer in CA that will sell out the door for under $12K (roughly MSRP and tax and lic). Would have got the S last year but I wanted a 4+ gallon tank and the reports of clunky shifting made me pause. This looks exactly like what I wanted an pulled me back from the brink of buying a Speed Triple. I saw a post of someone getting an extended warranty for an extra 3 years for $999(?). Does Buell offer one (I see no mention anywhere), and is that the going price? Is there a recommended outside company that sells one if not? A friend just bought a Triumph and got 2 yrs for about $200. I would like the piece of mind as I am mainly buying to ride on my 70 mile commute.

I just picked up my XB12Ss from Simi Valley Harley/Buell yesterday. Steve, Andy, and Paul were great folks to work with and they actually dealt under MSRP. They did offer an extended warranty but I declined. I have a very good friend that is a certified Harley/Buell mechanic that will take care of all labor for a bottle of Crown Royal (after the repairs are made ).

Give them a call at (805) 552-9555 and tell them that Lee Williams sent you... You never know, maybe I'll get some free stuff!!!!

Thanks. I read your thread about CA dealers and was going to do that. I actually plan to be in LA for the long weekend coming up. I like to support local dealers but so far I've been told MSRP, that's $13.5K OTD (yeah, I can do math, that's a lie to me) at one of the dealers that was recommended and another was out of Ss's but was up front at least about selling for $1,100 over MSRP (and still $1000 cheaper OTD). I can't wait... the GF was against me getting a bike until I showed her a pic of this one. I'm looking for a Blue w/ the gold rims (I like 'em even though they don't seem too popular on the board). Was the warranty from Buell or an independent? Really don't have time to call the dealer and chat until I return.

The warranty was from Buell, I think. Simi Valley HD/Buell and Ventura HD/Buell are owned by the same folks, so you should be able to do the same type of deal. After being at both dealerships, I would deal through Simi Valley and have them bring the Blue XB12Ss from Ventura. The Ventura dealership had a blue model there about a week ago...

when they talk ESP, Extended Service Plan all warranties start at the date of purchase of the bike.
It is a little confusing
A 5 year warranty does not add 5 years on top of the 2 you get with the bike.
A 5 year plan adds 3 years and yes, it is 999.00
here is the whole breakdown
3 year(adding one year) 609.00
4 year(adding 2 years) 814.00
5 year(adding 3 years) 999.00
6 years(adding 4 years) 1204.00
7 year (adding 5 years) 1494.00

Thanks for the warranty info. After my first experience with a dealer, I didn't really feel like talking to one again until I had the cash in hand and was ready to walk out with it.

The dealer recommendation is really appreciated, I'll mention you, Lee, and hope you get free stuff. I could pick it up at either location pretty easily and cruise 101 home.

What is the first oil change recommendation, could I ride 500 miles slowly and varying speeds to get home before the first change? I bought my last bike in Santa Maria and did that but that is just over half the mileage of LA. Now all the little details will come to mind until I get it.

Good luck on your future purchase of the 12SS. first service is at 1000 miles per owners manual for 05 models should be the same for the 06 models. then every 2500 after that.

the extended warranty plan they sell at the dealership is through H-D Services. i was told by lots of people at the dealership and friends that own/owned HOGs highly recommend the ex warranty. if you do get the warranty get the package with the wheel and tire coverage.

welcome to the board and glad you choose Buell over the Brit bike.

Dave,I thought you could buy the ESP up untill the factory warranty expired, that way you can have the entire length of the ESP.

nope, not the way it works.
All ESP plans go from the original warranty start date.
Plus, if you wait more than 90 days or 2000 miles they charge you 150.00 more than if you do it right away

Sounds like they really want it to be your problem and and not theirs. In my business everything is a handshake and everything is no pay if not 100% satisfied. Got more work than ten of me can do though.

Mike,

First oil and tranny change is at 500 miles. I picked up my bike yesterday and am about 50 miles into the 500 (I took a LOOOONG lunch hour today ).

Unfortunately, Santa Maria HD is no longer in the Buell business. They are only 17 miles from me, so that would have been way more convienient!!

Good luck on your purchase!! If you need help, just let me know...

Mikemax -

if you want to add any factory accessories to the bike considder having the dealership install them at the time of purchase and add them to your SWR - the accessories will then be covered by the bikes 2 year warranty.

ESP - your call. ESP repairs require a $50, with the exception of tires. ESP may require an inspector to come out and aprove a claim before any work is done on your bike, downtime for you. ESP is also specific in what it covers.

Thanks to all for the info. I'll probably get the extra 3 years, a tank bag, and the City's frame pucks (don't think I need them but I like the look) from the dealer if all goes well. Otherwise I really haven't looked into the other accessories. The Bob job is a must at some point as it really completes the look. Also I'll probably want to do the dual headlight re-wire I saw posted (make 'em both high and lo beam via the switch). I'm sure I'll get more ideas later.

Shinobi, you just took delivery from Simi...do I have to plan ahead or can I just show up, sign the papers, and ride off as I hoped? Maybe I will have to try and "buy" on Friday then and pick it up before Memorial Day when I go down to SoCal. Only 50 miles, did you truck it home then?

Mike,

I'm about 120 miles from Simi Valley, so I thought the highway ride on 101 at constant RPMs would be detrimental to the break-in. So, I hauled it in my Tacoma...

You will need to call them before showing up to check availability of the bike you want. The Ss models are leaving the showrooms as soon as they hit. I needed to drop a $500 deposit to keep someone else from grabbing up my Ss. There were a few folks looking at it when I dropped my deposit!!

Paul, Steve, and Andy are a joy to work with. I did almost everything over the phone and fax prior to showing up to pick up my bike. I was in and out of the dealership in less than 90 minutes including all of the introductions to the rest of the staff and my shopping.

They don't stock the tank bags or frame pucks. You'll need to order those if you want them. I ordered my pucks from American Sport Bike and had them on my doorstep within a couple of days. I bought a Tourmaster Cortech Super Mini Tankbag from a local Honda dealership in Lompoc for way less than the Buell tankbag.

Good luck, my friend, and I hope they have the dream bike you're looking for!!

Thanks again. I'll probably call them tomorrow and do the same phone/fax thing so I know what's up before I head down there. It was a long ride to go slow, vary speeds, and stop along 101 when I bought my Kawi EX-500 in Santa Maria before but I just took my time and enjoyed the ride and it broke in fine.
