My bike(03' S) has less of a "tight spot" than I have seen described also. I would say it's about 1/16", which is not really a lot when we are talking about 5/8" to 3/4" of freeplay(which has been recommended highly on this site, and what mine is set at with good results) my $.02 Tank |

I would use the larger of those two measurements. I tried 5/8" Sunday and so far it seems OK, but I did get a false neutral from first to second, but second to first seems to be MAYBE better... I'll keep trying it and make a post sometime in the future. |

My tight spot is about 1/4" tighter than the loosest spot. I marked it on mine too and it is in the same place every time. I like that, it makes it easy to check it quickly. Jack |

How do you rotate the engine to find the tight spot? Do you have to remove the plugs? |

My Firebolt had a very tight spot at about 5k but last time I checked (7.5k) it had gone I rotate the engine by flicking the starter button. |

I had trouble finding the tight spot on my chain too. It was hardly noticeable, probably only about a 1/16" too. |

How do you rotate the engine to find the tight spot? 1. Raise rear wheel. 2. Click all the way up to 5th gear. 3. Turn wheel by hand. |

I do like Kowpow225 says, I use a center stand and I also pull the plugs to that I don't have to fight compression. They need to be looked at every once in a while anyway, who not while you are checking your primary chain. Wet a clean rag with acetone or parts cleaner, wipe the tight spot sideplate off, and put a big "X" on it with a permanent ink felt tip marker. It will stay visible for a long time. Jack |
