Imagine that, they predicted 3.50 a gal by summer and there it is.
The oil company guys that are so good at predicting prices should
be on wall street. Oh wait, they are predicting where they will
set their own prices.

Kind of the same thing as "predicting" which route you will take
to get home.
Ignore the man behind the curtain I am the great and powerful Oz!
There are no record high profits! It's because of insert disaster here!

Well, let's look at the situation realistically. First, the iraqis invade Kuwait, and we deploy troops. Now, according to some of the Special Forces people who were deployed there, the oil rig charges were planted by US troops, and then detonated on our own people as they moved forward, supposedly by the coalition officers that ordered the charges placed. That kind of took Kuwait out of the oil game, as the most major player watched in horror as they were first invaded, then their oil reserves and ecosystem were destroyed.

That must have pleased them immensely. And to think that they knew the truth. Then, Sept. 11 happened, and Saudi Terrorists blew up the world trade centers. Of course, they also blew up the customs building, which was WTC 7, I believe, and were nice enough when they brought that one down to at least give everyone some advance notice because the loss of life was already so staggering. Probably the same reason why they didn't blow up the George Washington Bridge. Now the guys who leased the WTC buildings, took out a nice sized insurance policy on both towers about 6 weeks before they were destroyed, and buildings which they leased for 3.6 billion were worth 7 billion in insurance.

Now, in Afghanistan, the Taliban, who was the largest distributor of narcotics in the world, having about 75% of the worlds market share in opiates, had recently outlawed production of said same. Of particular interest in this situation was the Northern Alliance, who was making money to fund their resistance to the Taliban by growing as well. Once the Americans retaliated against the Taliban, and their Saudi compatriarchs in Afghan, the Taliban was virtually wiped out. But since we had friends up north, they, and their opiate trade, survived remarkably well. And with no one to tell them that they couldn't grow, well, needles to say, there are junkies all over that section of the world now, with at least 4 million in Pakistan alone.

Then, in the next brilliant strategic move by our foresighted Govt., we decided to attack Iraq as well. Basically the exact same situation with the Kurds and their drug trade. With Saddam and his regime brought down, there is really nothing left in place, with the exception of several thousand American and coalition troops to battle said same. Basically, they are fighting junkies that have nothing to lose by blowing themselves and other people up. Lots of fun.

In the meantime, with most of the other players out of the game now, Saud and their OPEC bretheren have taken it upon themselves to doublecross and curse the infidel. Thus the more than doubling of the prices at the pump. Of course the Israelis aren't complaining too loudly, as the largest Islamic powerbase in the region was brought down, and the drug trade, which has been proliferated as a result of the war, has resulted in tidy little profits across the board.

See, there is a method to the madness. Read between the lines, and be glad you were at least smart enough to buy a vehicle that has very good gas mileage. Of course, if and when the war ever ends in the region, and we all hope it will soon, then gas prices will characteristically drop as they always have when the region is peaceful. Gas has always been more expensive whenever the Mideast in engaged in conflict. Allah's revenge perhaps, but the best thing you can do in this situation is pray for peace in the region, and the safe return of our troops.

With too much time on my hands ( as usual )

It's £1 a liter here in the UK. More in rural areas.

It's sickening. The oil companies are manipulating what they drill. What they process, and at what price they sell.

Yes, lets look at it realistically. THAT is the biggest load of BS I ever heard. Who are these "Special Forces people"? Soldiers are NOT robots. Kindly refrain from speading this kind of stuff. You couldn't possibly prove that it was Coalition troops and not the Iraqis that did that. You couldn't possibly prove that Gen Schwartzkopf or any other officer had any military or other reason to do any such thing. You also could not possibly prove that American soldiers WOULD do that even if ordered to. That would have accomplished NO military goal whatsoever, would have been a waste of time and effort, and put soldiers in danger needlessly. Anyone who paid any attention to Desert Storm knows that those oil wells were burning long before the land forces got there.

As for the rest of it, I can hardly bring myself to dignify it with comment. Little of it is based in fact, none of it can be proven, and honestly is just repulsive. Please leave that stuff on whatever conspiracy theory website that you found it.

While blaming high gas prices on the "evil" oil companies - check out how much state and federal tax is paid on a gallon of gas.

The government doesn't lift a finger to explore, drill or refine gasoline but they make more $$$ per gallon in taxes than the oil COs profit per gallon.

Next time you see a construction crew tearing up a perfectly good highway to lay a new one, write your congressman and tell him to repair fewer roads and give you back some of the gas taxes you pay (paid) !!!

Oil is a commodity and is traded - speculatively. The prices you see reflect that speculation along with some other factors. To say that our oil comes from this country or that country is really a misnomer. It all goes into the same glass. If less or more is added to the pot the value fluctuates.

That's as maybe, but the taxes are a constant. It's the oil companies that put the price up or down. And whilst it is a commodity, it is very well manipulated.

I hear GM have been in the crud for some time now. Their SUV sales have fallen dramatically in the home market etc etc etc, and the Japanese companies are out profiting the US car corp's, but when did anyone ever here of an oil company in the poop.

I find it sickening that people, even more so motorcycle enthusiasts, can defend oil companies for their pricing structure.

Gimme a break.

As long as the beady eyed dim wit is in office, NOTHING will change.
He, his daddy and the Saudis are all getting fat as hell, being oil men.
Remember, this is the same ass hole that allowed Saudis, including members of Bin Ladin's family, fly out of the country during the "no fly" period immediately following 9-11.
AND, the vast majority of terrorists responsible for 9-11 were Saudis, NOT Iraqis!
He owes his soul to oil!

This is a dumb ass thread!!! Seems to come up once a month. Our gas prices are lower then most places in this world, and the oil companies are finally making a profit on their investments they made years ago. Grow up people this is what companies do, invest in a product and hope to make a profit off of that investment.

Why don't you buy some stock in these companies and or stock in alternative fuel producing companies.

It's a f***in conspiracy I tell you! They're all out to get us! Especially the fat bastards who drive the big SUV's who use all the oil so they can pay more money for it, so the price can go up, so we can finally get off our asses and explore alternative fuels, so we can ride our motorcycles on relatively clean uncrowded roads!!! My gawd, where will it all end?!

Stretchman - the reason the Customshouse suffered no fatalities was because they didn't take a direct hit and had enough time to evacuate, since they were all well trained in the wake of the Feb '03 bombing. BTW the Customshouse was 6 WTC not 7 WTC (which suffered more direct damage), get your facts straight.

Let me further explain. Not all oil companies are in the business of exploration, extraction and refining of oil. Some do all, some only do one. For example, Kerr - McGee is an energy exploration company. Have you ever seen a Kerr-McGee filling station? Gasoline is distributed through a vast underground network of pipes. If I remember correctly, only two grades of gasoline are sent through the pipeline and none of the gas is brand specific. When the gasoline reaches the distribution hubs, the various gasoline retailers add their specific requirements to the gasoline such as detergents and cracking catalysts.. Oh, and when the price of oil goes up the oil companies aren't reaping all of those profits - OPEC and the speculators are. It's fairly more complex than I'm describing here but that's the basic structure

My mistake. WTC 6. Ok.

This is the internet. You're right. Not everything on the internet is true. But which do you believe more? Advertising funded mass media? Where budget cutbacks are so severe that every news station in town is now getting the bulk of their information from the same sources? Or a global forum with very little in the way of censorship, and no pecuniary interest? I'll grant you, if one person says it, then I'll take it with a grain of salt. If it comes from a site that says "Evil illuminati spacemen are molesting your dog" then I may look at it with a jaundiced eye. But if it comes from a variety of sources that are saying the same things, then maybe just maybe, there's some credibility to it after all.

I have been doing research on the internet for about 12 years now. I have held certs in MS Windows systems, Linux, and I worked with Os/2 for quite a while. I was also stationed overseas way back in the 80s during the Reagan years for about 3 years. I worked on F-111s and EFs. I can understand why if someone doesn't have a mainstream opinion that they are dissed. I am kind of used to it. But rather than sit on a curb with a sign that says "The end of the world is nigh", I spend my time assimilating what I believe are the real facts, separate the wheat from the chaff, and propagate theory drawn directly from trusted sources, including real US Govt. reports on the situation in the middle east. I have been doing so, in fact, long before Sept. 11.

Here are things we know are fact.

The rumors about Bush and the ties to the Bin Laden family.

The ties between the Taliban, Osama, and the opium trade.

The relation between gas prices and violence in the Mideast.

The long standing ties between the drug trade and terror in the Mideast. The terrorists are funded from the dope trade.

The insurance policies on the towers. BTW, 6 WTC was already wired to be pulled?

It was no jet that hit the Pentagon. You know it, I know it, and the Govt. knows it. That was no commercial jet engine on the lawn at the Pentagon. I worked in Aviation.

All based on fact. All could be proven. But it is not the point. The point is, the sooner we realize who we are fighting, and why, the sooner we can end this conflict, bring the troops home, and then, and only then, will we see a decrease in the prices at the pump, which, IMO, is what this thread is really all about.

No argument from me with any of those. Though none of those come anywhere near indicating any kind of conspiracy involving the President or anyone in the Government. These things have been happening for many, many years.
