I have a black 'bolt, and i was wondering if anyone has found any good waxes or polishes that makes the black really shine, and take out some of the hair lines scratches and swirls... I was wondering about the turtle wax black stuff, or that new Nano wax from eagle one... Any ideas??? Thanks

Bret -

I've found that the stuff the manual recommends works great!

don't use any of the wax intended for cars.....they just make a mess,,,your bike isn't painted its molded in color....novus from the harley dealer works pretty good.....i honestly stopped trying to keep the scratches of it at this point.....try novus plastic polish...they have a rubbing compound too

For the embedded plastic...I would not recommend above a Novus 1. Novus is for the translucent body work. Check you owners manual use what it recommends.

The best stuff I have found so far for embedded plastics is PLEXUS plastic polish.

Yeah, I used Novus 2 on my black pieces and I swear it left swirls. I won't use that again. Agreed Sgthigg!

Honda Pro-clean comes in a spray can and works very well. It does not remove scratches like the Novus product, but it removes bugs and roadgrime and leaves a polished finish.

novus works fine...the rubbing compound will leave swirl marks if you aren't careful...i've used just about everything...there really isn't a miracle product to get the scratches out....just polish the plastic as best as you can and deal with it

I use Novus on the Plastic Parts of My pinball machines. You should always go down in numbers. So if you start polishing with Novus 2 to get rid of the bigger scratches, you should then go down to novus 1 to get the shine back. Now please be aware that I haven't don't this on my XB yet, but do it all the time on the pins.

For the light marks on the plastic I like Meguiars ScratchX. It's less abrasive than the Novus 2. I'll use Novus 2 only for a really bad scuff then follow up with ScratchX. My preferred wax is Meguiars NXT paste wax. It doesn't leave a white film on the matte plastic, like frame pucks, turns siganls...etc.

3m also makes a product like labeled for marine (as in fiberglass) use. It's has progressive levels of polish that I have used with great success also.

I have found that it's a pretty constant job trying to keep the airbox and tail section on my Firebolt looking good. But it can be done.

I used plain ole' turtle paste wax with a powered 10" buffer - worked real good. The only problem was wax would get caught on the edge of the Buell lettering on the tank cover - pain in the a** to get rid of. However, I think most waxes will have that same problem.

A lot of sport touring types with fully faired machines swear by good old Lemon pledge and its analogues.

I've used it on my Concours windscreen and body work with good result. The consensus is apply liberally and work it in with a diligent application of elbow grease.

Can't vouch for the performance on the XB Delrin (sp?) plastic, but it couldn't hurt to try and it's cheap to boot.

Get a can of PLEXUS from the dealership or local car shop. the stuff is unbeatable. Restores the luster to blk body work.

Mr Sheen (Household Furniture Polish) works like a treat and smells like lemon for inbetween proper polishing. I use PlastX about twice a year to bring back the mega shine.
