I would like to check the static ignition timing and I have the factory service manual. The manual talks about connecting a "digital technician" to the data port which I don't have. Is there a method of doing this that doesn't require some special test equipment? I understand what the timing should be and how to change it if it isn't correct, I just need to know what (when) the cam position sensor is reading. Appreciate the help in advance. Jim H | ||

Gowindward, Thanks. That's just what I was looking for. A couple questions: - what wires do you use when you take your readings from the cam sensor? - what did you use to replace the rivets that you have to drill out? Thanks again, Jim H | ||

Jim, It's the same black w/ white tracer and green w/ white tracer as indicated in the referenced post. One end of the wire is at the ECM the other at the cam sensor. You can see that on one wire diagrams in the service manual. I stuck straight sewing pins into the wires to be able to probe them. My DMM probes are not small/sharp enough to get through the insulation cleanly. I drilled and tapped the rivet holes for I think it was 10-24 button socket head stainless machine screws. | ||

What changed Davo? This software has been available for at least a year. They've been promising expanded features the whole time. I'm sure they are honestly working on it. Technoresearch has been a reputable company by all accounts, but I wouldn't hold my breath. | ||

Gowindward, Appreciate the help. I found the wiring diagrams in the manual after I sent the message - I see what you mean. I'll check the timing this weekend - it's probably close to right. No complaints about power, but there's some funny noises that are driving me crazy. Jim H | ||

Diablobrian, I was hoping that they would modify the software to include fuel pump voltage under the channel command. I simply listened for the fuel pump to cut on and after about four times around I was able to get a good fix on my timing mark. My bike was early. Now it ain't and no more pinging!
