I dont think it soulnds very good with the insert in, especially compared to the sound with it out. It wont sound stock, but Its not very loud either. Just slide it in the pipe without drilling the hole and see how it sounds.

I have the insert also. It is quite a bit quieter, but it takes a performance hit too.

On the HBM website they have these dyno charts for the xb9.

http://www.hillbilly-motors.de/html/xb_9_dyno_results.html Thanks Jens!

compare the torque and hp curves with and without the quiet insert (10th and 12th charts)

You take a significant hit by using the quiet core. However if you are making early
arrivals and departures and don't want your neighbors to hate your guts........

I have it in mine. I use it on longer rides. When I want to be loud, I just take it out. It can be a bit of a pain to get out unless you make a special tool for pulling it. You can take a cheap screwdriver and bend the end at 90 degrees about 1 inch from the end. Then that tool can be used to pull it out by working it back and forth. Personally, I can't tell much difference in performance. The sound difference is obvious though. The insert does make it much quieter.

Didn't someone say it will actually add back a little low end torque as well (at the expense of the top end). I keep thinking about getting one for mine.

It is a pervasive gear-head myth that back pressure in the exhaust improves torque.

Look at the dyno charts.
