What model years supposedly have the sub-par fuel pump? I have developed a whine and a hesitation at low rpm's, combined with an infrequent backfire on downshift. Could this be related to the fuel pump? |

I think it was the 03'to 04' models. Have you changed out you exhaust recently? As far as the hesitation, very possible...search the threads we has a discussion about this not that long ago. |

On my 03 xb9s, when the pump is first powered up on a cold start it is really noisy and raspie sounding. After that it sounds just fine, sometimes I can hear it whining over the engine ( with race kit). I dont worry about it because my other bike is a H-D, it rattles, pops and coughs threw the carb all the time. I just figure the XB (nut) doest fall far from the H-D (tree). Am I wrong ? |

I think it was not until 06 that they really worked it out. I think it was cavitating under high load. It was an issue for race bikes, I don't think there was much problem on the street. |

The new fuel pump went into production in the middle of the '05 model year bikes. I don't remember exactly what month it was, but it should be listed in the '05 parts catalog. |
