Wow. I just replaced the chin farring on my XB9S. Man ribbet removal is a Pain in the a$$!! I wish they just use nuts and bolts. Also to do the oil chnage it seems you'd always have to remove the chin farring to do it. I mean its not bad, but it sucks in the service manual says noting about removie the chin farring. bad bad on the manuals part. Oh well rant over  | ||

Yeah...it's no big deal to remove the chin fairing. I take that opportunity to clean everything while it's off. | ||

My guess is he replaced the center piece, not the whole thing. The center piece is riveted to the outer two colored pieces and yes, is a pain to swap out...drilling those rivets can get hot and melt the plastic. Some places sell a pop rivet removal kit that includes a bit to remove then and the correct size nuts and bolts. I've got that on mine. | ||

Cruisin, Yep thats correct. the grey piece. ribbets were pain in the you know what to get removed. All done, it was a blessing. Thank god we have a harbor freight tools store here. Ribbet gun $4 , pack of the correct ribbets $2 and about 1 hour of mine time taking the old ribets out and new ones in. Hope your chin farring never brakes its a ^%&^$%!!! | ||

Vise grips on the back side will stop the rivets from spinning while drilling. | ||

My 03 XB9s center chin fairing piece is bolted on, I took it off a while ago to paint black. No ribbets (frog sound) or rivets (metal fastener) were present. Took about 3 minutes. | ||

I have got a mate to make a one piece mold of my chin farring. Going to paint it gold the same color as the rims. He's doing it as a favor, (said nothing like a challenge) but his paying jobs come first. I reckon it will be worth the wait. Nothing like having a mate who does plastic and paint for race bikes for a living! Will post pics when I get it! | ||

On the topic of Ribbets, does anyone have any tips on drilling the two ribbets on the points cover? Will they spin like the ones on the chin fairing? | ||

I thought about that when I went to do this...what I did was bend the edges a bit upward and then used a pair of small ViceGrip pliers to hold the rivet while drilling it out between the plier jaws...worked pretty good. |
