1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Open chain inspection cover 3. With a small steel ruler, measure freeplay of chain. Cold freeplay should be 1/2". Adjust as needed & re-assemble with new inspection cover gasket & re-connect battery cable. Try to duplicate condition on next ride. You may want to consider having the initial 1,000 mile service done soon. Includes clutch & cable adjustments, fluid & filter changes, etc. Hope this helps. Chris |

I just fixed my 12R that had a Nasty lil sound,,, first thought the primary chain was loose but Nope,, it was the crank nut that come loose... The way I figured it out was I put the bike in gear and held the brake then started letting the clutch out. once the clutch started slipping the noise pretty much quit... If the chain was loose it woulda kept making the noise. Just don't slip the clutch to much,, it only takes a few seconds to figure it out... |

well, its more then a KNOCK then a noise after i started it today.. the guy at the dealer said if it was the primary chain, it wouldnt knock.... well ill find out.. i guess the good thing is is that its close to 1,000 mile mark and when they figure out the problem, 1,000 mile checkup and i wont have to pay for fluids, gaskets or anything else thats under warrenty!! |

Americanxb has a 2006 that is new (680 miles) and that service bulletin came out like 8 months ago. I would expect bikes to have had the new torque at the factory even before the SB came out. If for some reason the bike doesn't have the new torque, they should be retorquing the thing as part of the dealer prep and adjustment! |

yes, if the bike is leaned over on right side, you can remove the primary cover without loss of lubricant. the removal of primary cover is NOT required to check and adjust the primary chain slack, there is an inspection cover for that service. recommend the immediate acquisition of one each: service manual, parts manual, and T-27 torx bit. |

well, i took it in today.. they said wait 10 min. and we will tell you what we hear... well its not good.. they said its something in the motor... they are going to tear it down and call me tommorrow and tell me what they find!! My question is... what do i do if they tell me the have to put a new top end, or bottom end, better yet, a whole new motor?... im pissed.... but what do i do? if they tell me i need a new motor, what can i do? i have to accept it.. then my bike will have 700 mile on it and a new motor.. then i will have to break it in. So say 3,4,5 years down the road i want to sell it. now i have 10,000 miles on my bike and 9,300 on the motor... doesnt look good as a buyer! i dont know what to do! hopefully something came loose and can be an easy fix, but i dont know ANYTHING in a motor that can me an easy fix.. just trying to think positive. you think there is a way to get a new bike by way of LEMON LAW on this one? can it be totaled with a blown motor?? man im pissed, but relived it was under warrenty.....even though only at 700 miles... |
