Is this a recall item? What all is involved in the upgrade? I've got 2k now and do not want to be stranded. |

Check the KV, all the info is in there. The old belt part number and upgraded belt number are in there. It's a direct replacement of the original 03 belt. Get the new updated model and you will be good to go ! |

Call DaveS in Appleton and get a new belt, I just ordered one today. He said there are 3 more in stock, that is the upgraded belt. I think we are out of luck about the 03 belt getting recalled. I just found some tiny hair line cracks in mine so I'm upgrading too. Anyone else break the 03 belt and at what mileage. So do you like the jardine? |

I am coming around the the position that the '03 belt is the best of all of them. I have even forgiven the mothers ship for not making it a recall item, even though it obviously is one. Really. The reason is that the '03 rear sprocket is smaller and lighter than the later models, and looks better. The belt is also smaller and lighter, and seems to work fine in its present form. Smaller and lighter is always better when it comes to sport bike drive trains, am I right? PS. The current, and only useful, part number is: G0500.02A8R Daves usually has them in stock. Grrrrr, The 03 belt is IMHO should be a safety recall item. I would be fine with the 12,000 mile interval but I have had two fail way short of that. Thank the stars it was not coming hard out of a turn in the canyons. Or even worse doing an emergency downshift and throttle hammer trying to avoid being rear ended or run over by a cager. (I had to do that yesterday). If I had a belt fail right then and got hurt I would be calling a lawyer. Someday that belt is gonna find it's way to a product liability attorney representing someone injured because of it. Sooner or later it is going to be expensive. I have spouted of about this before and although I love my bike (and would buy another) I find the 03 belt issue and the lack of a recall more than a little disturbing. I do find it confusing that Erik Buell would visit a downed rider but not insist in recalling the darn belt. I imagine that decision is not his. Whats even sadder is that I know I am |

Before I call to order one, what can I expect to pay for a new belt? |

You guys know you can install the belt on with minimal tools. What I did was cut the old belt off with shears, removed the swing arm brace, covers and pully wheel just the wheel. Put the new belt on. Then placed a jack underneath the pully and lifted it up and put the bolt though it. Do it slowly and adjust it's position as it comes up. I'll probably get flamed for it for my mcgiverish tactics. The axle remover thing was hard to come by and I didn't have an allen key large enough for the pinch bolt at the time. |
