I was the guy who posted the thread about the Ducati -vs- Buell. You guys won and I picked up an 03 XB9SL this weekend. I was a little dis-heartned, the guy had it posted on ebay as an XBS, I bought it thinking it was an XBS. Then I posted on the Duc -vs- Buell thread that I won the bike, and someone mentioned it was an SL. I could've backed out of the deal, but I figured I would drive to the bike, test ride it, and take it if everything is cool. It was!! The bike fits perfect. I was a little worried about the lower height, but its all good. I am about 5-11' and I feel fine on the bike. But I am moving up from the Blast so any bike seems roomier than what I had. I will probably put a Corbin on the bike. The stock seat sucks. That should give me an extra inch on the bike. My first impression........its not a Blast. The bike handles completely different. I can tell this bike was made for taking corners, very responsive and nimble. I like that!! On my test ride, I was a little uncomfortable. There is a lot of torque on roll out and the way bike handles was different. But after a few rides today, I feel way more confident on the bike. I have had a perma-grin on my face all day, This is a fun bike!! I am thinking about taking the LCR class at my local track (Learning the Curves). Have any of you guys taken that class. I want to learn the right way what this bike is capable of doing so I can get the most out of riding it. I figured on a track w/ no traffic and seasoned instructors is the way to do it. The course is $250, but I think its worth it. The only thing I am thinking about is getting the race kit, mainly because of the possibility they might become discontinued. How much better does the Buell pro-series exhaust sound over the stock exhaust. I did the carb, air, and exhaust mod on the Blast and it made a huge difference in how that bike sounds. Will I get the same effect from the XB race kit as I did on the Blast? All in all, I made the right choice by getting the Buell instead of the Duc...thanks for all of the replies on the previous thread. (Message edited by g4string on April 09, 2006) |

i have the exact same bike(well it used to be)...First off the low seat sucks......you can find a used stock seat realatively cheap. Mine came with the race kit but i wanted more sound out of it so i went with the d&D pipe...I still run the race ecm and filter. I love my bike, haven't had any major issues as of yet and i've had it for 2yrs now..Basic little maintanence item come up but no big deal |

Yeah, the race pipe is pretty quiet if you asked me if you want loud go with jardine d&d or drummer pipe. I went with the jardine it's cheap $240, but performs ok and sounds cool. |

The first thing you should do is see what tires are on it. If it still has the original Dunlops, change them. There are many brands you can choose from. Search this site and you'll find many recommended. It's the best improvement you can make. |

i have the rt-1 and since it was on it when I got it, I cannot tell you how it compares to stock. However I really, really love the vroom sound it has. very tuff Boral/flowmaster V8 sound. Not like rice rocket sound. I am sure by specs it about 20% better then stock. I saw some stats here on the jardin: (XB9 dyno) http://www.hillbilly-motors.com/html/jardine_xb9_dynos.html |

I have a CityX which is the same engine as you. I got the Race kit for it and it made a really positive difference. It eliminated a drop in power and give the bike a really nice sound but a not too loud sound. For the money, the race kit is a really good bang for the buck. Welcome aboard As for tires, I personally love Metlers and Pirellis. I also hate Dunlops. This is just my personal preference and might not be reflective of others opinions |

a nhumber of Northern Ill Buell Dealers are hosting track days this year -- a couple a Joliet, and I would imagine that Blackhawk (right in your back yard, btw) would have a couple of well - - big fun, and a great way to learn! |

Best upgrades: Different tires, different seat. I like the Scorpion Syncs and the Buell Streetfighter seat. Congrats on the new bike! Bill |

Congrats on the new bike.. I'm also 5'11" and my SL suits me just right. I'll agree with you on the seat it's to slippery for me. Have fun and ride safe..... By the way I also had a 2002 blast that I traded in for it. I Don't regret it at all. (Message edited by firefightergarcia on April 12, 2006) |

I rode the Blast for the first time since last year, what a turtle!! Its a great bike, but its a turtle compared to the XB9. Its also loud. I never realized how loud the performance Buell pipe on the Blast really is. I plan on putting the race kit on and some new shoes. There was a thread started recently about tires, so I should be able to make a good decision based on that thread regarding tires. The bike has 2700K on it, so I think some new shoes are in order. After riding the Blast, I realized I dont want a super loud pipe. I think I want something in the middle of the road. So the race kit seems like the best bang for my buck. If any body has any links to some dealer sponsered track days send them to me. Thanks for all of the help. Here is the bike........

I too completed my first ride on my Blast the other day since my purchase of my new toy, (12X). The Blast was my first bike ever and really fell in love with the Buells. When the 12X was introduced I said I would have one. Got it in November and have 3000 on it. Has a great ride and love the power. Love lifting the front wheel! Seems like kids play with the torque of the bike.
Thats the Blast under cover behind my toy. |
