I know I've posted on this subject before, but I have new info, and need more help. I have replaced the rear sprocket and belt on my '05 xb9r since crashing and having the bike slide on it's right side. The problem: belt works it's way off of the idler pulley when spun in reverse. It will stay on track when spun forward.
Details: rear swingarm on the RH side is scuffed and scraped at the axle, but decent. RH clip-on, mirror, signal, footpeg, rear brake lever, rear-set, sprocket and belt have been replaced. Primary sprocket looks to have a slight bit of it's outer rim bent toward the LH side of the bike. From the factory it has a slight lip to the RH side. Make sense? Anyway, Rear wheel appears to be o.k. along with the axle. What could possibly be making the belt run out? On top of all of that, I crashed 8/28/05 and have been slowly working on it since. What would be my approach to professional help? Such as a dealer inspection or insurance. Would my ins. co. just laugh and hang up on me? I'm so frustrated and getting to the point where I could seriously almost cry. Sob, sob poor me right? Shouldn't have been jack-assin' around! So, any help or insight I could get would be real cool. Those who responded to my earlier problems were great, thank you. And thank you to any and all who reply!

The rear sprocket has a lip on the wheel side edge but not the other edge. It sounds like maybe the swingarm/wheel/sproket assembly is bent counterclockwise, looking from above.

Is the belt guard assembly still on?

Maybe take some 2x4's or other type straight edge and see if the distance between the wheels is the same on both sides, trying to see if there is an alignment problem.

Maybe pull the rear wheel, check the bearings, and check the wheel for run out, maybe it is bent?

Can you ride it? How does it feel?

Our dealership has an insurance guy that does pretty much all crash work. If he is in tomorrow I will ask him.

I contacted my ins. co. and they are going to try to work with me and my local dealer, even considering I've done some of the repairs myself. I'll keep posting on any updates. Thanks again!
