Must you replace the XB Battery with a factory one, or will one from Advance Auto Parts do? Is there a difference in quality? |

You need a maintenance free battery deep cycle gel type. They are sealed and should not leak. Yuasa makes one for 2003 XB9R part number YTX14-BS. I have not tried it yet. I need one, going for a dealer battery I think cost is $65 for OEM. Checking on Yuasa pricing right now. $78 for local Honda dealer for the Yuasa. I thought Harley dealer was the rip off place. My friend just purchased a Yuasa this past weekend and the problem we had with it was with the Positive terminal hookup. it is about a 3rd of an inch lower than the stock battery so we had to make a spacer to hook it up and as a result use a longer bolt too. was sort of a pain. |

I guess I'll stick with the stock replacement. |

if you can get the stock one for $65, go for it. we purchased the yuasa at a discount bike shop for $70 and again not worth the hassel. |

The stock battery is just as good as any aftermarket. (remember, someone makes them for H-D, good chance it could be the same battery) |

The stock Harley batteries are very sophisticated absorbed glass matt units. Very durable, very well made, and fit perfect. The price when I bought my last one was quite fair, and in stock at my local dealer. (The stator for a tuber is a different story though... IMHO less part for more money). Make sure you are comparing apples to apples when you look at aftermarket. |

Yup, i was worried about all the things listed by you guys. That's why I went with OEM, for the price you can't beat it. 12V OEM Maintenance Free Non-Spillable: H-D *AGM Battery part number 65948-00 *AGM = Absorbed Glass Matt Battery comes charged and ready for install |

Well I just replaced my stock dead battery with a Yuasa because a friend owns a shop and I got it for cost. The battery was in for less than a week and leaked everywhere. Swing arm is stained and undertray has some acid melt on the inside. Wires and everything else was fine. Manufacturer refused to replace it.

Team If you do not use the OEM Stock battery make sure the replacement is a true AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) type that do not have "free" liquid battery acid that could leak out and onto your bike. When I purchased my XB the previous owner had installed a maintenance free sealed battery with liquid. I am glad it had not leaked in the one year he had it. Remember these batteries lay on the side and are subject to vibration and shock. Learn from Jjcoroa information he shared with us. The other issue when not using the HD direct replacement is the room under the seat do not leave much room for other battery cable routing if the battery lugs are not same. Universal lugs are a pain to get the exact battery cable routing. After a search I found only one non-OEM battery that was close enough to meet the requirements. It was 53 USD compared to 100 USD and required a spacer between the battery lug and cable connection. Other features looked exactly like OEM HD Battery. Possibly they make the battery for HD? If I was purchasing one now that I have found this site I would check with one of our sponsors first or the local Buell dealer as the good one's need our support as well. Do not forget to keep the battery at full charge on the off season or in season low usage or with short trips that do not fully replace the current used to start. This is a quick way to ruin a new battery. Look into Battery Tenders if these conditions apply. Wayne (Message edited by Slickster on April 06, 2006) |

IMHO the H-D product battery is the "BEST" !!! The "BATTERY TENDER" is a PLUS !!! |

I'm using a Wal Mart special temp. for now. Going to switch over to the HD one at the end of the month. That is if I don't go crazy and just replace it now for peace of mind. |

Wow, wish I would have read this a month or so ago. I never checked at the dealer as I thought it would have been too expensive. I bought this battery, http://www.ebatteriestogo.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EBTG &Product_Code=12V14-B For what I paid I could have gotten the HD battery. It says it an AGM though so I should be OK from a leaker standpoint. I had to do the longer stud and spacer on the positive terminal too. Plus it's not made in the USA. B-loose |

Still have the original OEM batteries in my 2000 X1 and 2003 Wide Glide and they are still functioning perfectly. Quite a surprise for me as I am used to only one or two years out of a motorcycle battery. Needless to say, I will stick with the HD OEM batteries if they ever need replacement. |
