A few days ago I hit the rev limiter for the first time. It was Kind of a disappointment... It's really hard to keep your eyes on the road and look at the tach for shift points. Don't know how racers do it without hitting the limiter so I was wondering if there was some kind of shift light that would let up know when to shift for aggressive riding. Maybe it's just my lack of experience on this bike... Are there remote shift lights you can attach in your helmet so you don't have to look down? I read the XBRR has a shift light. What are all you racers doing? | ||

Don't think for a moment that racer boys do not hit the rev limiter, even with shift lights, but they are better at hearing the engine than most street riders. There are several shift lights available commercially, just pick on up and mount it on top of the instrument panel. I like them, but I am no racer boy. | ||

Its just a Dyna Shift Light (Make sure you get one for 2cyl not 4cyl) I got it from Zippers, but as for price im not sure what list is I payed cost. | ||

Oh cool. I was looking on ebay and most of them say they will work with 4, 6, and 8cyl but they didnt mention 2 so I dont thing that will work. | ||

I have one, but it was part of the deal when I bought my shifter.  It is brighter than it looks in the pic. | ||

How is it when your racing and not really paying attention? Is it blinding or do you just notice some kind of halo of light? | ||

Put the "SHIFT LIGHT" in the line of 12 o'clock/6 o'clock position for best results ... Tachs. are only good for setting idle and monotoring warm up RPMs ... | ||

I picked this one up from Al at American Sportbike. Works pretty good. Sometimes if the sun is directly on top of the light I cant see it but it's no big deal. Steve  | ||

These Raptors are awesome. I used to run one on my Bandit. They're super small, yet really bright! Come in diff. colors too. The best part is, is they're rpm adjustable without plug in "pills". There are a couple dials that you set rpm with. I had a black case with red leds. Once you get it aimed right, it works great. It came with a couple caps too...one was red for riding at night. I have the datatool revlight. I just took the bike out for the first ride since before winter and it works good. I like the fact that you can set it to go all at once, in series, or one light at a time. I hope I can get some more miles on it to see how much it helps. | ||

TACHOMETER(TACH.): a device for indicating speed of rotation ... English motorcycles usually had one of these next to the speedometer ... | ||

The shift light really lets you know when to do it in the heat of battle where you have a lot of things going on very quickly. You generally are in a tucked position with your helmet on the tank, craned neck and paying attention to where the heck you are going at such a rate of speed. Glancing down and trying to focus on a tach doesn't seem like such a good idea when you are going hundreds of feet per second...although I have done it thousands of times. That is when you need one. Not while you are putting around in town. | ||

i need 2 or a duel one. one to kick on about 4300-4500 to kick on the nitrous and another one at 7000-7200 so i can get off the button before i hit the rev limiter. | ||

Can't the datatool light be programmed to be a 2-stage shift light? I think it can be set to start flashing at a set rpm then come on solid when you hit another higher rpm. I could be wrong about it being the datatool, but there is definitely one on the market. | ||

i am pretty sure i have seen on that will do that but cant remember where. guess i'll stumble across it one of these days. like i need to spend more money for that at the moment | ||

Bcordb3: Before "TACH.s" they shifted by ear which was not evry accurate !!! When the "TACH.s" came out the SHIFT RPMs was in the ENGINE SPEC. SHEETS or you asked the RACING DEPT.(Harley-Davidson) ... You would place the "TACH." so when the SHIFT RPM was reached the "TACH." needle would be STRAIGHT UP as you would look straight ahead over the "TACH." ... With the SHIFT LIGHT you look straight ahead over the SHIFT LIGHT ... |
