I was enjoying a ride to my favorite tattoo shop this afternoon and my check engine light suddenly comes on, then shortly after I lose all gauges. I rode for about a mile before she finally quit. Does this sound like a battery problem or a charging problem? Thanks in advance for any insight. |

Probably was the battery. Check connections. |

More info would help, but given the data before us, I would be checking battery connections to be clean (first) and tight. Pop the primary chain inspection cover off and take a really deep whiff as well, see if it *really* stinks. That is an inconclusive but very easy stator test. |

Check to make sure your relays and fuses are seated well too. |

This happened to me once. Except my bike was going nutz until it finally died. It turned out to be lose battery connections. The bike vibrates like crazy and you just have to make sure everything is loc-tight as hell. |

Thanks guys, the connections are not loose, I'll try a new battery in the morn, just picked it up tonight. I might add that the bike sat on a charger all night the night before and acted fine the next morn, if that's any help. Are the stators known for going bad on these bikes? |

My check engine light came on once and the bike died about 5 seconds later. Ended up being the stator. Only had 7000 miles when it happened. Took the dealership 4 days to fix it. |

Pulled The inspection cover for the primary and it stunk to holy hell. Possible stator? I'll let you know. |

Possible has nothing to do with it... your stator is toast. Pull the stator plug and do a resistance check across all the pins (going towards the stator), and across pins to ground. I bet you a beer you will find one of the pins shorted to ground. |
