I was looking over the bike this morning and noticed a bit of black creeping out from under one of the jugs. Is this going to be a major job to fix? Can I get a wrench under it and just retorque it? Do I have to pull the motor? Arghhghgh!. 26,000 miles. I love my buell but damm I rode several rice burners into 60,000+ miles and never did anything other than tune-ups............. |

I think some seeping is probably pretty normal for an engine with 26K. I have some seeping from the area in between the cylinders on mine, and some people have had seeping from the cases and different places. I'm not sure if it is a big deal or not, but I think it probably depends on the amount of seeping you're talking about. |

The seepage does not appear to be wet. and it takes a little while to show up after being cleaned. I am hoping It is "normal". My uncle is an old Harley racer and he says if you cant find some oil it must be empty....... I do not want to cause a larger problem though. |

Leave it alone . Just wipe it every once in a while and do your regular maintenance. |

your uncle is right... When I was stationed aboard a cutter in which the power plant was over 50 years old, we used to always say if its not leaking oil somethings wrong. |

That is just about what mine looks like. I don't have the seeping from the back of the cylinder, but in between your cylinders on the second pic looks identical to mine. |

40,000 miles and that looks a lot like what I see. My mechanic says it's fine. I'm not burning or losing oil, so I keep on truckin' |

Buelltroll: out of curiosity, where'd you get that timing plate cover? I like it a lot. |

Al at www.americansportbike.com even came with a little mint to freshen up after the hard work of installing it. |

Don't worry about it. My 1983 FXRS started doing that in 1985, still does it now. GUNK it once a month, just like new. Never has the heads off, yet. |

Guess I'm not the only one having this happening at 27,000 miles. I've thought about taking some RTV sealant and running it around that area to help seal it up. Are they using paper gaskets there or what? Well, if I ever tear the engine down I'm going to use a ton of high temp RTV sealant around all gaskets to prevent this from happening again. |

I think it just has to do with the metal expanding at slightly different temps at warmup...so some who live in colder climates might see it sooner. Nothing to worry about though - you're not losing enough oil to amount to anything. |

It's just the automatic oil changing system at work. No worries! |
