So many topics, not sure what to reply too . . . About that R1200S-- don't forget that its using an overhead cam motor with 4 valves per cylinder and has a shorter stroke with higher compression than the XB12 motor. It should out-power the XB12 at the expense of low-end torque. If it didn't, BMW would look silly. Also, despite losing 29lbs this year its still heavier than an XB12. I agree that it's a wonderful motorcycle along with being my personal favorite of the BMW line, but it's not significantly more advanced than the 3 year old XBs. About insurance in NC-- not much to say, it sucks. My record is quite clean, I've never been found at fault for an accident, yet ~$1100/year is the absolute cheapest coverage I can find for my '04 12R. Progressive wanted $3600/yr, which makes their motorcycle-friendly advertising that much more annoying. About the '07 XBs-- I don't know anything this year. I'd be shocked not to see at least something trickle down from the XBRR (can't we at least have the caliper?), but I'm certainly not expecting 115hp. Even if they did release a street-legal XBRR clone it wouldn't make much difference to me, I'm in no position to buy a new bike this year. However, the sooner they release the "next" XB the sooner they'll be available on the used market at a price I can afford. In any case . . . Go Buell!! |

"I would have to agree if Buell wants to sell more bikes it need to make more power. Just changing the trans and frame doesn't do it. Remember change is always good but HP sales." funny, I've been watching Buell since the late 90s, and hanging around here (badweb) since Y2K . . . not a day goes by where someone doesn't say zactly the same thing, and yet, Buell keep selling more bikes -- curious HP DOES sell bikes, in some parts of the market -- that would not explain BMWs continued existance, or HD's for that matter -- seems Buell is after a different market than Honda, for instance, is "So if Buell could drop 10 to 15 pds(which would be easy)" Easy -- hmmmmm -- please tell me how to drop 10 to 15 pounds off any XB series sled -- I'd LOVE to know -- |

heck from the tubers to the Xb's Buells dropped a TON of weight. weight wise the Buell's are feather weights. Power is good... like i have stated before.. I would like a "long" version of the 12R.. for us over 6' tall. |

Featherweight?, naah. An '05 GSXR1K is lighter, as are many modern sportbikes. What is amazing is how light an XB is compared to how much that lump of a HD motor weighs. |

I agree with Blackbelt, give me an R long, a few mods and its a sub 400lb bike getting 100 rwhp. |

BOO YA!! come on Ceejay... lets start a rally for a XB12Rs.... lol I would buy one this summer if they came out. I know we would loose a bit of the handling w/ the longer frame and swingarm. Ok not feather weight but when you loose 80-100 lbs on a bike that is HUGE! especially when the first bike weighs less than 500lbs like the Tuber. |

yea I'm pretty sure that the weight I've gained through the beer and cheese diet has offset any wieght that my tuber has lost...but I would still like an XBRlong...Are the head tube angles the same on the XBss/ulysses as they are on the firebolts? that could be the answer I'm a looking for.. |

On another note.. I still think a good idea would be a XB12RS.. A new Thunderbolt. Use the long frame, put a 'street' version of the RR body on it, maybe give it a higher red line (similar to the 9s and we all know it's been done with a 9 bored to 1250). The larger frame would give better comfort for a passenger, the bodywork gives it better aerodynamics, it could easily be fitted with hard bags (T model) and it would allow larger riders to have the more aggressive 'R' type Buell and still fit easily. With the standard 'S' pegs it's a sport touring machine just itching to be unleashed on mountain roads.. and it would be quicker with the higher RPM and better aeros.. You still don't need the hop up for the extra ponies since those changes will help make up the speed.. Now, what else am I missing? |

Motorcycle Consumer News dyno tested the '05 BMW R1200RT and R1200ST. Peak HP was 96.5 RWHP for the RT and 94.8 RWHP for the ST. Unfortunately MCN failed to run the XB12 Buells to the rev limit, so their reported 85.4 RWHP peak HP is artificially low. Looks to me like it would have made at least 3 more HP if MCN had let the XB12S run to the rev limit, so say around 88 RWHP. That is less than 10 RWHP off the Beemer's best run. I'm not seeing the 122 BHP at the crank either. Still good performance though, and significantly up from their prior R1150 models. What is strange though is that the R1200GS only ran 80.2 RWHP. It was the most recent R1200 model that MCN tested too. MCN commented on it, but no answer was provided to explain the seriously degraded peak power. |

Well, Buell's updated the XBS line quite a bit over the last couple of years. I would say it's time for the XBR line to get some goodies now. Just have to wait till July. |
