Hey all. I just got back from the desert and bought an 04 XB12S. I was looking for any advice on performance mods, appearance add-ons, servicing preferences, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Best performace mod is better tires. The stock Dunlops don't cut the mustard. They can't even lick the jar.

I run Pirelli Scorpion Sync on my 12S (they come stock on the CityX) & I love em & recommend them.
There are quite a lot of good tires available that out perform the Dunlops in every way. Look in the knowledge vault & you'll find many rider reviews of many different tires.

Next best mods are Buell frame pucks & Dark Horse Motto fork & axle sliders. You payed a pretty penny for that fine machine, these will help protect her.

Set up the suspension properly. These bikes are very sensitive to adjustments & when you have it right these things are brilliant in the corners. Have it off a bit & it's a night & day difference.

Last but certainly not least; Miles. Putting lots & lots of miles on a bike is the single greatest mod you can do.

Put on some miles. Replace your tires when worn, which will be around 2000 miles on the rear if you're lucky. I like Michelin Pilot Powers. Any one of the after market pipes are good. Some better that others. Depends on what you want to spend and what looks good to you. Race ECM, But I'd do as stated above. I can tell you from first hand experience, the swing arm and fork sliders DO THEIR JOB AND DO IT WELL. Frame pucks. Just ride the hell out of it. Worry about the can and ECM later.

I'll just say welcome to badweb.

Everything I'd tell you has been covered between the previous posts.

are the Dark Horse Motto fork & axle sliders the recommended ones on this site?

arent' they aluminum? and I thought you should stay away from aluminum sliders as they don't give?

Welcome to the dark side!

I'd suggest riding the bike for awhile before doing any mods. That will give you some time to get familiar with the Buell as well as gather some information on this forum.

There's been a lot of debate as to what's better, aluminum or nylon (or whatever non metallic stuff they use).

I don't know but I've seen pics of Buellers' bikes with the Dark Horse axle sliders that have gone down and it was amazing to see how good of a job they did keeping harm from the fork & swingarm.

Here's an old thread that discusses the differences. Just copy & paste cause I don't know how to link it.

Tires and properly setup/sprung suspension!

Confidence in the bike's handling and braking will do more to get you going faster than pouring money into the motor.
