I know, technically this is in the wrong section, but sometimes you have to go where the traffic is. I am looking at ditching my Vanson and Icon jackets in favor of the Kushitani R.T. or the Bora or Charger or Haku from Dainese. Aerostitch. Touring use with a long cut, but the combination of fit, warmth, ventilation, waterproof, breathabillity, versatility, outweighs any concern about coolness to me. | ||

The Vanson is the CSRX model ( I think it is, I always screw up those letters) in a sz 42, I need a forty and Vanson won't help me with an exchange. To have the jacket custom fit it would be over $300. Don't get me wrong I love the Vanson, but I need a tighter fitting jacket. | ||

If it's a fit thing, I can understand getting a new jacket. I wouldn't trade any of my Vansons or my 'Stitch Roadcrafter for the world... Did you buy it direct from Vanson or from elsewhere? I'd bet you could sell the jacket you have on eBay or in badweb's classifieds and recoup a decent part of what you have invested. Where is the Vanson too loose? I'd assume you have armor in it, if not that takes up a decent amount of space and makes them fit a bit better. | ||

Vanson has a complicated measuring bit that we do to order a custom jacket. They have a whole little chart, and we have to measure people in like 15 different places to fit the jacket. I'm not suggesting that, but starting with measuring your chest, and maybe the length of your sleeves would be a good place to begin. Then you can use this fancy-schmancy chart from the Vanson site. http://www.vansonleathers.com/vanson_info/sizing_chart.htm It will give you a starting point anyway. They'll even show you how to do the measuring properly here. THAT should REALLY get you started. Now all you need is . . . a measuring tape. No, those metal ones won't work as well. And the wood ones just suck. | ||

Vanson's stuff is more expensive than the Joe Rocket's etc. But if you can afford it, the quality is superb, especially if you get one of the custom fitted ones like Chellem describes. These are jackets than literally would last 20 years, and several crashes! | ||

Buell_892: I am 5'10 and about 170 and I have a SZ44 fits me well. You might need a 46. Not trying to sell anything because Im not affiliated with Motophoria, but it really is a nice jacket. 1.5MM thick leather, double kevlar stiching and removable armor included. I had a vanson years ago and thay are really high quality. I should warn you though that the vanson jackets do not come standard with the armor or the removable liner. So add that to the price of the jacket. Its easy to spend $800-1000 on a Vanson jacket. | ||

I just had Vanson ship a stallion Jacket to my local dealer. The price was 650.00 + 50.00(adding two inches in length cause I am 6'4" and they are not built for tall people) + 150.00 (all body armor is extra now, prices are for Vanson Body Armor)= 850.00 and 10 weeks wait to add the 2 inches. The leather was so Fine, great quality Jacket, looked super. I had the dealer send it back, no go for that dough, bought an Icon for 290.00 with armor included.  | ||

I would always go with a Vanson product over Joe Rocket or Icon. Superior materials & craftsmanship. Alpinestars has some pretty decent stuff. Icon just makes hideous crap IMO. Leo, did Vanson or the dealer not have a sample of Vanson's product? Tell you that long sizes were extra? Armour was additional? Custom orders would take longer to fulfill? Just trying to understand your post, as the way it's worded, it makes you look pretty bad. | ||

I have uploaded some pictures so I hope this works. If it does not just type Vanson CSRX into google and it will show you. I purchased the vanson from a dealer amd paid nearly $600 and I'm willing to sell it at $345 and I'll pay the shipping in the lower 48. You can hop on ebay and purchase all the armor for about $60. I have been watching these jackets sell and I think you will see I'm asking below market. The Icon is the Neo Daytona Hero black/white combo with full armor. As they are not producing this jacket anymore, they are getting harder and harder to find. I tried to exchange mine for a sz 40 and since there were none, I had to keep my jacket. I will sell the Hero for $300 and agin, I'll pay for the shipping. I can tell a difference in the two jackets, but I would not agree that Icon is junk. I think both of these jackets will save your hide when the time comes. I was interested in buying the Vanson Stallion white/Orange Jacket and called Vanson direct. I liked the looks and knew the quality of Vanson. Vanson told me the best way to handle this was to ship the jacket in question to the nearest Vanson Dealer at no cost or obligation to me. There, I could try on the jacket and decide if I wanted to buy it with no obligation. With my size, after trying it on, said jacket would have to be altered 2 inches in length which Vanson could do for 50.00 more and would take 10 weeks. Body armor was not included in the 650.00 price of jacket and would be extra(150.00 per dealer). I decided to go with an Icon Jacket because of the cost of the Vanson(850.00) and the wait to get it altered. The Vanson's quality was never in question, beautiful leather jacket. I went with the Icon because of moderate price and ready available and the body armor was included in price of 290.00 ( retail of 350.00). I would rather spend that money(850.00) on an exhaust/air filter/brain box for my XB12Ss. I just love a deal and hate to pay list but, have never had any Icon products. Had I found the Vanson Jacket on Ebay at a reduced price I would have probably bid. Hope this clears up my post. | ||

The zipper on my Vanson was messed up and they sent me out a new one with a return label in the box so I could switch them out at no charge! Same thing with the Alpinestar gloves I ordered in the wrong size, sent me a new pair and charged me a tiny return shipping fee. If you do decide to buy one call newenough before you order and give them your measurements and they will make sure you get the right on the first time. I got a great deal on a firstgear 2 piece with ce armor at newenough.com. Great service start to finish too. As Speedfreaks said, they even help you make sure you get the right size the first time. Glitch I have jacket envy. I really dig that model of vanson, and you can never have enough riding jackets. | ||

The Dainese Bora is a great off-the-peg jacket. It's short in the body and the arms are very long. Like all good riding jackets, it doesn't fit properly unless you're on the bike; it's tight across the chest but looser on the back and the arms are pre-curved. The lining is not removeable but it comes with elbow and shoulder armour and a pocket for a back protector. You may laugh, but the hump on the back does make a difference at any speed above 50mph. The back of the collar has a nice stretch insert which makes it easy to get your chin on the airbox. For all it's summer sport-riding pretensions, it's a warm jacket and the thickness of the hide can make it uncomfortable in hot weather. The front sections look perforated in photos but it's actually a texture applied to the leather. As a top-end Dainese jacket, the quality is superlative compared to some of their less expensive offerings and IMO well worth consideration. | ||

Nice explanation of the Bora. From what I have heard, in addition to your report, I think it might be a little too race oriented for my taste. I need something that I can wear out also. So, anyone with anything on Kushitani??? I think I'm going to order the R.T. jacket, mesh(perforated) dragon pants, and the Power Max boots. My Alpinestars GP Pro's should be on the way. hi jak i have worn vanson for years,nothing better than the comp hides are excellent,2mm leather 4mm on shoulders not 1.2 fashion hide,if you hit the deck in one its not going to fall apart like many that i could mention, here in the uk they are very expensive and worth every pound or dollar, they are excellent to deal with and even make you a custom fit with logos buell etc. i have a few of their jackets and would'nt wear anything else on the bike , as my mates said when i came off at 60 mph on a corner , good job that you had that on, if it had been a fashion bike jacket like most i would have a lot less skin now. can't put a price on your own hide.i'm not keen on their armour ,hein gericke do rubber type armour(sports) rated the dogs wotsits which you can velcro in, best of both worlds then. | ||
