Well, we all know how gas does nasty things to our plastics on the City X. So, I was wondering if anyone's tried clear coating their's to protect for that. If you have, did it work? |

Haven't given much thought to clearcoat, but the rental CityX I had down in Tucson was nasty. I didn't spill a drop on it, but I'm sure a lot of people don't give a F with a rental. Even though I rode her pretty hard, I atleast didn't spill gas all over it. Hell, I even washed it once. LOL |

when i fill up...before i get the nozzle out..i grab 2 paper towels out of the dispenser..i put it at the end of the nozzle as i'm putting the nozzle to the filler cap...then do the same as i'm done fuelling...so i never have a spill problem. |

3M makes a product called Scotchcal (sp?). It's a clear / thin adhesive film that can be cut in patterns and then used to protect paint, etc. Some of the luxury car makers are using it or something similar to protect the edge of the hood, etc. You could try something similar around the edges of the City X airbox cover. Mine has some spots so I am extremely careful getting gas. Theres always the new kick ash body work or the magnesium strip kit... when it get's too nasty I will upgrade. I've had good results with NOVUS 2, try that for blemeshes! |

Tried Novus 2 in order to get some splashes off from my airbox. It didn't work at all. Any one had luck with any another product? |

Nothing I have tried has worked so I solved the problem forever. I had all the body work Line-X coated. Now I can wash it with gas and it still looks perfect! |

Cataract2, Clear coat can do the job, The only thing you have to take care is to prepare the plastic carefully if you don't want adhesion problems. First the plastic must be carefully clean with a cleaner/degreaser. After that you must use an adhesion promoter like Dupont 222. Then you can do your clear coats (3 coats). You can first try it on the flyscreen to se how it work. |

Lol, I already know about the Novus 2 and stuff. Owned mine bike for 24,500 miles now. Believe me. It's been abused when a #$%^$*&# gas pump didn't stop. Anyways, I'll take a look into that scotch guard and maybe a spray bottle of clear coat. I think it's experiment time. |

If it's really bad, start with novus 3, then use novus 2. For lighter hazing, novus 2 will do it by itself. Follow up with the Harley Sealer Glaze (thats the best I found so far). I just grab point the nozzle down when I pull it out of the pump and make sure it dribbles out, then put my other (gloved) left hand over the top of the nozzle while swinging it over to the the plastics, both putting it in and taking it out. First time I had a defective pump basically hose down half the airbox cover I freaked out. It took about 3 hours to clean up, but looked good when I was done. Now little splats are an annoyance (can clean them up in 20 minutes or so) but not a huge deal. |

Novus 3 then Novus 2 then Harley glaze. Follow the novus directions to the letter. Next time I blotch mine, I will try and post some step by step photos. You would be amazed what kind of mess you can return to just about perfect. |
