Got my new issue yesterday. Had a shoot out of the "Bug-eyed Street Fighters" with the new XB12Ss against the Triumph Speed Triple. They had reviewed the Uly several month back (Loved it!) and referenced that the 12Ss disappointed them in handling as it was not "Neutral" and tended to stand up in braking. Commented on the fuel injection programming impact to engine breaking. Also stated that the rubber mounting in the motor made it feel less rigid in the turns. On the plus side, they did love the handling in the corners and said the only time the triumph would outrun it was if straight aways were over 1/4 mile. They never really stated a "Clear Winner" i was surprised with their comments on handling vs the Uly with shorter suspension being the only real difference. I looked for a link but the site still has the Jan issue shown. MB |

not a bad article. one curiosity is that they "got a slow one" again. topped out at 125 MPH, and only pulled around 81 horses on dyno. too bad they had to test on stock Dunlop 208 tires, which really DO affect handling. Also of note was the shortest 60 to zero stop ever attained by MCN test crews, the Speed Triple stopped in a hair under 105 feet, besting its previous record of 107 feet set by the 1999 model speed triple. the DID NOT give it a clean victory over the Buell, as the triumph had a long lever travel, and just did not have as good brake feel as the Buell. all in all, not a bad review. |

Typical MCN, full of goofs and errors. Dyno chart starts at 3,500 rpm, stops at 6,500. Idiots. |

The last straw for me with MCN was when they devoted an entire page of "Medical Motorcycling" to flatulence. |

The torque curve plot is bogus too; it has a massive 10 LB*FT drop at 5,500 rpm that is not reflected by the HP plot. HP and Torque do not intersect at 5252 rpm either. Idiots. |
