Made the mistake of letting my insurance co. know that my /03 XB9S has the "race kit" instead of a muffler, filter and ecu. Coverage problem. Solution seems to be to go to parts that are not said to be for race or track use only. Anyone interested in buying my race kit or trading me their stock (or other after market) muffler and ecu? |

Will all parts work with an '05 XB9SX? If so, I would be willing to work something out once I get my bike out of storage so that I can remove the stock items to trade. |

I'll be back-up to Alex's offer. I have like-new original parts to trade. Mine's a 2003, only 1k miles (obviously not my primary bike!). Everything's flawless, including muffler. Mark Oregon p.s. Ken, just had to "salute" that patriotic theme in your profile. Where can I get a poster? Are those the Andrews Sisters circa WWII?! (Message edited by sweatmark on January 26, 2006) |

exactly 12r, what do you think the insurance company would have said if they knew my 84 shortbox s10 that came with a 2.0 4cyl 5spd ended up with a 425horse 383 stroker motor in it? dont think there is a class to put that in to insure it, lol. its almost always better NOT to volunteer anymore info than you need to to get the job done. |

Thanks for all the responses. I doubt if there would have been as many takers if I said I could get you a date with Pamela Anderson. Sorry to be slow in getting back to y'all. I have been trying to figure this out. Thought I would get a stock muffler and send it to Kevin Drummer, go with stock ecm and TFI so I am not using "race only" parts. Kevin says his muffler is designed to run with race ecu. I called insurance co again today to get a clearer picture. They say they will not insure my bike with any engine modifications. (At first they said they would as long as horsepower increase did not exceed 20%-imagine the technical discussions about that issue.) So looks like I have to go back to stock. Other insurance co's quoted premiums double what first insurer would charge for less coverage. Plus they are worse to deal with if you have a claim. The stupid things (at least those that come immediately to my mind) are: 1. With the premium saved I could go for a stock XB12 for the same premium and have more power than the XB9 with race kit; 2. I will still have way less power than any stock 600 supersport 3. How many thousands of bikes are out there with engine modifications (I am just talking about pipes, jetting or power commander etc., nevermind big bores, p and p etc)? Why do I care? I don't want to find out the hard way that I don't have coverage when I need it. Of course we all know that insurance companies are pretty ignorant about bikes so they may not figure it out. That was good enough for me when I was young and foolish but now that I am old and foolish I don't want to worry about it. So I just want to check into the insurance thing for a day or two before finalizing this. I will also see what it will cost me to trade up to a 12. I am pretty sure I will still want to do the swap and I will post when I make a firm decision. In order not to clog up the board, anyone interested can email me at ***leighbell@bellnet.ca where *** = tim. Skyguy, send pictures (your girlfriend, not your parts). I think it would be fair to ask for some cash, say $100 to $200. |

Insurance problem seems to be solved. Went back to a broker known for dealing with bikes at the recommendation of the local Harley dealer. They tell me I have the coverage I wanted at reasonable rates. Funny thing is that the first time I called them they quoted double the rate and the second time I called they told me they couldn't quote on Buells because their market had a big surcharge for Buells. In fact, they have recently reduced the rating for Buells. Moral is it may be a good thing to use a good broker rather than dealing with insurer direct. sorry to all who responded but unless some unexpected issue comes up I will be keeping the "pro series muffler" and related parts. Happy day for me. |
