In the service manual, its says to always replace the front muffler strap when the muffler is taken off but not the same for the rear ones. Does everyone out there, always replace it and why? |

I didn't replace mine the first couple of times, but it did eventually brake...I now keep an extra set on hand, and safety wire the straps just in case... Larry |

Kccyclone - Did the band of the strap brake and what do you safety wire? Thanks |

Yes, the band snapped...I actually safety wire the can itself, that way if the strap brakes the can is still held on...Not that I'm too worried, the mid-pipe clamp and rear clamps should hold it on fine, but better to be safe than sorry... Larry |

I think your right No_rice, but I think it was a custom exhaust not the stocker... Larry |

The strap on my 9 broke after several ons and offs as well. It is my opinion that the torque spec. is too high for that strap. My original muffler had an indentation from the strap. I remember my mechanic's feel alarm going off as I tightened it the first time to the recommended torque setting. I now torque it to the same spec. as the rear ones. |

Same here, after about six swaps. Yes, it was Wycked but it was a home brew mount and a V&H can. I don't remember if it was the can that exploded or the mount that broke. for the record... He still can't ride . |

Yeah, it was not a strap that broke on Wycked's bike, but an aftermarket mount. The front of the muffler dropped down and caught the pavement, while the rear of the muffler was still solidly mounted. While I'm sure the Superman impression was great, it wasn't something anybody should attempt to repeat. If you do decide to reuse, you run the risk of the band snapping. The metal often can't take the repeated stress. That being said, some people have reused it and used a lesser torque spec and have had great success. Do so at your own risk. I like the idea of throwing a piece of safety wire around it as well, for good measure. |

All the ones I've heard about are broken at the two tack welds on the nut/left side. |

That is one of the things about the Micron pipe that I love. There is no front strap. The front of the pipe mounts to the mounting point that the front cradle used to be attached to. Gives me some peace of mind feeling certain that the pipe isn't going to fall off. |

I designed the Drummer SS front mount to eliminate that strap.

Dude... Stop leaning your bike over so far... You're scraping the oil filter. |

M1 - lol, I just noticed that. It's the original stock factory filter. Dunno how it got that way. The Amsoil one I'm using now is white. |

WOW! That muffler is almost too pretty. I'd weep the first time it got a scratch on it. |

Gives me some peace of mind feeling certain that the pipe isn't going to fall off. Don't count that piece of mind without checking to make sure the mount hasn't broken either the bolt or the mount itself. Since no one could find the mount for the front anywhere, I can't say what broke or didn't break. I am around, just tired of the Kuell-aid. |

Wycked - I thought about that very problem on my design too - What if the (2) 1/4 20 button heads fell off? I'm suggesting blue loctite on them as a safety measure. Additionally the headpipe clamp would also have to come loose and probably one of the back straps too before anything catastrophic could occur. Shite happens, but I feel pretty secure in the design. |

Its a chain effect. If you miss the initial break, it will all work itself apart. Once that exhaust is hot, you would be very suprised how easy that headpipe is to seperate. A good bump, a fistful of throttle, both at the same time, once the canister starts wiggling...I would be less worried about the (2) 1/4 20's then I would be about the nylocked nut on the hanger. Buell went with an exhaust locknut for a reason. |
