Need some info for header removal! I have the manual but I now some of you wrenchers probably have some tips and tricks. I will look in the KV for some info but if anyone wants to tell me how to save loads of time and frustration I'm all ears. Has anyone got them off without a full engine rotation? Because getting to that upper rear flange nut looks imposible without removing the fan. thanks guys, I'm looking to paint the exaust. Some have done it on the bike but I think I can do a better job if its off the bike. |

i havent done it but i do plan on painting my exhaust on the bike. if you are going to the extent of taking the header off why not just get it coated and then never have to worry about it anymore? more than likely too keep the paint looking new it will need a touch up once in awhile and removing the header everytime would suck i think! just a thought... |

yea I know I want a ceramic coating. But have many other things to buy for the bike this spring. I guess I will just paint mine on the bike too. |

Actually, rotating the engine is pretty easy to do. When I wrapped my headers, I was thinking of just pulling the fan and going in "through the back door". I decided to go ahead and rotate it and was quite surprised how easy it was. It's much easier if you have a good set of stands. You don't have to remove the forks like I have done in the photos -- I happened to have them off because I was also doing a 10K service. A small scissor or bottle jack under the case controls the descent, and when I got it where I wanted it, I slung a tie-down around the triple clamp and under the front motor mount for a little extra peace of mind in case the jack slipped. BTW, the only deviation from the book was the fact that I didn't remove the front mount from the cylinder. I did have to loosen the tie-down to get at the front header bolts though...
