IMHO he is likely to stupid to ride or get along well with. That aside there are tons of ebay products being sold for more than retail. People get caught up in trying to win the auction at all costs. I've been thinking of a GEO Tracker for my kid who's about to turn 16 and Edmunds has them running between $700 and $1200 for a moderately used 80k mile 1997. Well one I'd been watching in Chicago went for $3800!!
