Rookie mechanic here with a front brake question:
I went about all wrong about changing the front pads and instead of just taking the pin out and sliding out the pads, (didn't find this out until after wards, DOH!) and opened the calipers up. Got it all put back together with the new pads and went through the refill of the brake fluid and bleeding already. I can't seem to get any lever pressure at all, is there something I am missing?
I know I need to pick up a manual and it's on my list, so please- no flaming on that. It's killing me missing riding time on a three day weekend.

Coyote, The manual's a good thing to have :-)

In this case gravity is your friend -- if the caliper is properly put together.

Keep pumping the lever and keep bleeding it off. Another little helper is a large syringe that will hold a couple ounces of fluid and shoot it back up through the bleeder valve until it bubbles on top. Seal the bleeder and pump, pump, pump. Bleed, pump, pump, pump and bleed.

All the above assumes that the caliper sealed up when you mated the halves,,,,you'll get it.

How did you bleed the brakes?
If you can't get any lever pressure, the brake are not bleed. You have air in your brakes. Bleed your brakes.

Ride safe

I had to bleed my front brake last year, and it took forever using standard technique(open, pump, close, release, etc) but eventually it did firm up. Just took a long time--I think the small diameter brake line holds air bubbles or something...

I'm told that sometimes leaving it sit overnight, then bleeding again, works--haven't tried that myself.

Let it gravity bleed. Top off the master cyl, open the bleeder and let it sit until it starts to dribble out. Then the usual pump, bleed, pump, and what-not.
