Sounds like you have a plan for action.

Between the wife and us (not like there is a comparison) you have the support you need to make a go of it.
Just be sure you don't put yourself in too big of a bind financially.

Remember: What's the best way to make a small fortune racing?

Start with a large one. (fortune that is)

Trust me, she controls the finances, she won't let me spend more then we can afford.

You will be hooked!, I promise you, be careful and do not get carried away,(finances-wise), real easy to do,and do not worry about finish position at first, just keep trying, you'll get faster!
Best times of my race life were on a bike, nothing will ever compare to going around turn eight at Willow, flat out and sliding, grinding knee pucks, boot toes, foot pegs, etc. and surviving!(1:23.9 my best lap)

That's one bonus I have. The wife is all for it and attends when I go.

Get your bike Track ready or a bike that is Track ready. Spend your $$$ on important stuff...like safety gear. Best helmet, leathers, boots, gloves, back protector that you can afford. Make sure that your bike is well maintained. Worry about the go fast goodies ,like Greg (Fusa21), said when you get to the bikes full potential, which will most likely not be your first year anyway. The quickest way to ruin the experiences is by spending too much money right away. Tent at the Track, bring your own food and drinks. If you can't afford an enclosed trailer right away, the back of a pick up works or any variety of utility trailers. Look for deals on tires and get an extra set or two. They go away pretty fast. Ebay is a wonderful thing. Pick up stuff as you go. Spend a ton of cash right off the bat and it won't be any fun. One of the many bonuses to a dedicated Track bike is if it brakes down and you have to wait to fix it... no big deal. If you're pulling double duty with your street bike and you're making payments... do you want it sitting. Not to mention the insurance company isn't going to cover Track related accidents.

All I have to do to my bike is wire it, but would my pirelli diablo corsa tires be good enough for racing? Also my wife wants to know how much the belly pan is?

Diablo corsas are great tires for club racing. Keeps you legal in SS too because it is a DOT tire class.
We were running slicks this year, but I saw a lot of those being used.
We run full body work so I have no idea about the belly pan.

"Do it....
no matter how much it costs or how badly you do it's going to be better than sitting in front of the TV in 20 years time wishing you'd done it "when you were younger""

Amen.

Made the decision a few weeks ago. Saving money now. Hope to have my AM license by mid year and do the whole season next year. Talking to sponsors already (small stuff) and hope to have a salvage titled bike by late in the year : ).

DO IT!

I use SuperCorsa Pros. They are a road legal race tyre and are available in various compounds and are superb. I buy used tyres from the "big guys" who dump tyres after one race and I find I can get quite a bit of use out of them. You can use a 190 section on the rear without any problems but just keep an eye on the clearance when they get very hot.

"I'll probably do Frank Kinsey school in April then some races after that"

OH MAN! I just did Frank's school yesterday. I went way better than I ever dreamed. Half way through the day I was seriously dragging my knee and pegs while accelerating and passing other riders on their outside. His "no brake drills are the heat! That is a great school. One day of school and I rode 158 miles of quality track time. I am exhausted today but grinning ear to ear! I highly recommend the FRank Kinsey Racing School. Oh, my XB9R was the talk of the school. People could not believe how well it handled the track. I want more.

Brian,
I think you mean the "Diablo Super Corsas"? They are also street legal DOT class tires, but in fact they are purpose built for racing.

Yes, I meant the Diablo super Corsas.
I have them on my bike, but I've never tested them on the track.

My brother tried them on a semi-damp day at Blackhawk in lieu of rains. He said they were a
little slippery at extreme lean angles, but that is in comparison to the slicks in the dry. He
had a low side on that practice session, but other factors were involved. (someone ran up
inside him then stood their bike up and used him as a "berm")

having said that, the diablo corsas will probably be fine for a first track day since speeds and temps
will be a lot lower than race pace, but your mileage may vary.

My bad on the name. Thanks Blake

Sorry guys I should have been more precise too. The tyre I was referring to is the Pirelli Dragon SuperCorsa Pro SC. This is available in 4 compounds sc0-sc3 and this is NOT street legal. The tyre I meant to refer to is The Pirelli Dragon SuperCorsa Pro and this IS street legal but is not available (as far as I know) in various compounds. The tyre I use is the SC in an sc2 compound and it is fantastic.
Sorry if I confused anyone.
