I go for a another mini road trip today and next thing I know I hear some vibrating sound and I look down to see on the left side my chin spoiler has come loose and is just flapping back and forth. This is the second time i've lost faring screws. Luckily I found some chrome ones at Ace Hardware. What a pita this bike is. ;P Before this I lost 2 screws and before that my battery cable came loose and my bike went nuts on me. (Message edited by isham on January 07, 2006) |

Use loctite and check the torque on all your fasteners ever now and then. Not a big deal. |

I have a loose screw between the handle bars and the seat. No fix found so far. It's as torqued as it gets... |

You have to locktite everything on a bike with a Harley engine. |

Blue locktite helps a lot. On some areas I use lock washers. All stainless. |

And avoid the temptation to think that if blue LocTite is good, red is better. And don't overtighten to attempt a solution. Get a tube of each color and use the blue stuff first on small fasteners that don't specify either grade. If that does not work, go to the red. Fasteners need to have clean threads and be free of grease and oil. Give the LocTite overnight or at least an hour or two to set up. One potential substitute for Loctite on small fasteners is Permatex Non-Hardening gasket sealant. That will usually keep a fastener that cannot be tightened snugly (like the ones through grommets on fairings and the like) from backing out or a nut from falling off. Again, let it set to harden after applying. Jack |

I concur with the above posts regarding Loctite. But...be VERY careful not to get it anywhere near any plastic. Don't even spill a drop on any plastic. It does horrible stuff to non-metallic items. |

I usually find 'em before they fall out when I'm detailing my bike. |
