I am wanting to modify the cheese grater and am looking to mount the license plate chopper style to the left side of the bike.http://www.1tail.com/sa/p/-TiteBike-_(tm)_license_plate_relocation_kit_-_Yamaha_R1_(1998-2005)_Yamaha_R6_(1999-2003).htm I am concerned about mounting it correctly. Has anyone done this or have any ideas? THX (Message edited by mike_bolts on January 05, 2006) |

Mike, I used the bolt that holds the brake line to the swingarm as a mounting point for my state inspection sticker. You might look at that as a point of mounting.

I'd be real concerned at the amount of damage that could be inflicted on the swingarm with anything mounted down there in an accident... |

Mike, We sell a license plate relocator bracket that would compliment your cheese grater mods quite nicely. Keith darkhorsemoto.com |

I think I'd rather leave it up high like in Skully's picture if it were me. The other is too "chopperish" Besides, just think what it will do the the unsprung weight! |

It would work best if you have a Hal's type chain conversion, but like Dave says...it would be too chopperish for my tastes. but hey, if we all liked the same things the world would be a very boring place. |

Hey Skully on that pic you posted where do I get a liscence plate bracket like the one on that bike. Not the cheese grader eliminator. But the extra piece under the plate? I work on a military base and I am required to have a base sticke and a state inspectionn sticker. I hate to think of placing it on the forks or some part of the frame. I wont. And I think I might be able to put the both on a plate as big as that one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Hello Jason, If you are referring to the small "tab" below the license plate, those can be purchased from Dennis Kirk at denniskirk.com or I'll bet our very own Daves can hook you up as well. Keith |

Sgthigg, You can do the stickers on a plate thing but don't be surprised if the gate guard stops you and tells you to stick it to the bikes frame or forks. This was the case with my bike's previous owner. Thats why my base decal is on the fork. It is policy on several bases. The idea is to keep someone from stealing the plate off your bike and putting it on theirs to gain access to the base. Of course, it's 100% ID checks nowdays so might get away with it. I think if you make a plate that takes more than a screwdriver and 10 seconds to steal then your golden. matter of fact...I gotta go to the garage! |

I might fabricate a temp plate with both stickers and put it on when i go on base and remove it when im riding around town. Whats the worst they can tell me to take it off? I think it will need to be secured like you said though. Thanks for reminding me. |

Hey Odie, I'm not in a situation that requires any sticker'y or tags - but if I were, thats a darn nice solution. |

Midnyte- thank you. I have always made plates for all of my bikes since 1983 as I have always had to have stickers. Necessary evil of being in the military. I bought a '72 Triumph 650 Tiger that had the old, big, super-strength stickers on the fork leg and it took days to get all of it off. Really sucked.... |
